Question about 1997 Saab 900

1997 Saab Convertible top is broken, and the rain is coming in!

I purchased this car about 8 months ago and fell in love with it, as all girls would, a convertible, yep, one that I could afford. Then I put the top down one day, and the rest was history, or should I say a nightmere! I have a 1997 Saab 900 convertible, the top will not go up all the way. There is a couple of inches or so that is left open in the back that is left open, where the rain is left to get inside of my car. I cant for the life of me figure out what is wrong with it. Since, I have put the top up, I am scared to let it back down for fear it wont go back up. Now, the rain is coming into my car when I am driving down the road and it is getting worse as time goes by. It has been like this for about six months now and I fear I am going to mess my car up. Could you please help me figure out what is wrong with it. I have spoken to several people and it seems as though it is a common problem, but with no answer on how to fix it or what is the cause. Please help me, figure something out.

The motor quit working and I have to manually raise the top. The problem I'm having is it won't latch if you have to manually raise and lower the top. How do I bypass the mechanical latch for the tonneau to hold the rear of the top. It is a 95 900 Saab.

Say courtney some convertibles are operated by a electric hydraulic pump in the trunk .. and they take fluid in the pump .. now I am not sure how the saab operates but look in the front of the trunk and see if there is a motor there and see if there is a place to add fluid to it .. just a thought .. thanks Jerry

The rear of the top under the back window is drawn down into place and latched by its own motor that simply pulls or pushes two rods. If the motor stopped moving for whatever reason, simply fold down the back seat, reach your arm through the little access at the top of the boot on the drivers side and pop the rods out of place and latch/unlatch manually. this takes a flashlight and some inspection time to do at first if you dont know what your feeling for.

i have the same problem with my 98 900s

Hi I have the same problem and have investigated as much as i can. On my car it would seem the gear on the motor for the roof is knackered. The motor is located in the boot on the drivers side behind the cover on the rear quarter. Make sure the battery is disconnected before removal for inspection or you may wind up with more problems, like me. replcement units are available but they aint cheap i.e. £495 from a dealership. Regards Tony.

Take it to a saab shop or a place that specializes in convertible tops. SAAB dealer would be best.

I would look at a possible blockage in the exhaust, including the catalytic converter.
Next would be fuel pressure.

Hi Wiz, 2005 pontiac Grand prix GTP.106,000 mi. I

this is true about the cheap aftermarket catalytics, i have seen them fail inspection when they were brand new. if the numbers were fairly close to the maximum limits, an GM cat will almost certainly make it pass, they are being honest with you. these are generally pretty bullet proof cars, i would be interested in hearing some of the other problems you have experienced! good luck!

Convertible top does not rise up

'07 PT convertable top control button would not operate except for putting the top down. I noticed that button did not go in when pressed for "up". Unsuccessfully attempted to remove center dash. while trying to remove with "use a bigger hammer" theory, a piece of hard plastic about 3/32 X 3/8 fell into view. Got the piece of plastic (part of center dash?) away, reconnected battery & top works OK.

Still don't know how to remove center dash.

Had motor replaced last september and ever since idiot so called mechanic fixed it I am always having the same codes come up when i scan it. one code is PO741 Torque Converter Clutch System Stuck Off and...

One common mistake mechanics make when replacing an engine is not properly securing the ground strap. Failure to do so will cause a wide variety of problems and your problem lights will continually light up and you will have an assortment of probelms.

Convertible top will not retract

Do you know where are the two levers on left and right side when open the tailgate? The one you open to raise the soft top from behind?
Well, one of them is not close tight enough. Open it up and close it back. There should be small click from the sensor. Sometimes the sensor won't get engaged and it won't allow opening the top, assuming it's open from the other side.

Check it out
