Question about 2003 Ford Focus

1 Answer

Car stalls when you come to a stop when car gets hot

When the outside temperature is over 60 Degs. and you drive around for about 30 minutes and make several stops the car will begin to stall everytime you get off the gas to come to a stop. It will start right up again but you must keep your foot on the gas or it will just stall again. After the car cools down it will stop doing it again.

Drive cycle reset

Drive Cycle resets to reset the OBDII testing phases are very specialized to the year, model and engine of your car. So I can only speak generally. Start the car from fully cold and let it idle for about 15 minutes, then put the car into gear and drive it for about 5 minutes at 35 mph, then get on a highway and drive at about 60 mph for 15 minutes, come off the highway and drive around 40 mph for 3 minutes, come to a complete stop (like a stop sign) wait 30 seconds, drive off again up to 40 mph for 4 minutes - and repeat the last 2 steps (going up to 40 mph) about 3-5 times. Then repeat the last two steps going up to only 25 mph. Then come to a complete stop in your driveway and let the car idle for 10 minutes with the a/c on . After this is done, hook up a code scanner and see if it reset the modes to "ready".

Since you can drive about 30 min before problems show up it would probably be bad coils. The other ones listed would not give you such a lengthy grace period and the coils are the only ones prone to overheating when weak. Best guess.

97 lumina, 3.1. Starts runs smooth, drive for 30

I just recently have been fighting the same problem with the same make/model/year vehicle. For myself, I would drive off and on through the day and it would run fine. Then suddenly after a start it would run rough and die. I would have to wait 20 to 60 mins before it would start again. I had it checked and fuel pump was only putting out around 19 psi. It should be around 41 psi. Had fuel pump replaced and no more problems. Furthermore, now it runs so much better. It's funny how over time I didn't notice how the performance was slowly degrading. Unfortunaley fuel pumps for this car run around $300.

After driving for around 30 minutes, the brake

That sounds like the "Porportioning valve" is defective.
You may want to go to your local library and check out a Chilton's, or some other repair manual for the "how to" to fix yourself or take it to a tech you can trust.
