Question about 1993 Subaru Loyale

1 Answer

NO HEADLIGHTS! I just purchased this vehicle in Florida. While driving back to Indiana the check engine light came on then went off. After another 100 miles or so the headlights went out totally. Everything else works perfectly. Checked all fuses and fusible links and they are perfect. How do I check the codes. I purchased a chiltons and it is absolutely worthless. This is a 1993 subaru loyale DL 4-door sedan with the 1.8 engine and automatic trans. I need help in finding the location of the MIL so I can get the codes out to fix this car. It has 26,500 actual miles. I did put some Lucas upper cylinder, preignition, fuel stabilizer in the tank before heading into the mountains and it seemed to quite the pinging right down and ran fine. Still does run fine. New to subaru and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Take it to an autozone they will scan the codes for free and i suspect it's the headlight relay in the fuse panel located in the engine compartment near the battery

There is a problem in the electrics of the vehicle. First place to start is to check the alternator drive belt for condition and tension. Next place is the battery terminals and condition and tension . Third place is to have a load test done on the battery as it may have an internal short and drawing all the current from the alternator. In effect when you add power requirements ( park lights then brake lights then headlights) you are actually using more current than the alternator can supply to keep the engine system running.

2002 Grand Marquis headlights won't turn off with switch, won't go out until vehicle is turned off

Might these be "driving lights"?
Cars with "driving lights" have lights that are supposed to stay on all the time the engine is running.
These lights not only look like headlights, in fact some cars even have the headlights themselves come on when the engine is running. Look as some more (several) 2002 Grand Marquis's and see if they are the same.
Be blessed.

This really an emergency I don't have money to fix my car right now. My car on the way to work started acting unusual. The dash lights stayed on while my gauges gave no readings and my radio completely...

The first thing you can do it to CHECK THE TERMINALS OF THE BATTERY< CHECK THE GROUDN CONNECTIONS TO THE CHASSIS.
If this seems corroded then clean and reset the terminals.
Secondly check the ECU, if the car seems to experience problems in the engine you must check the errror codes.
Finally the fuse box, relay box and the dash cluster must be checked for loose connection.

Headlights won't work Chevy K-10 Pickup

With electrical problems I always look for a bad ground wire, especially on older vehicles. Look for any wire that goes to an inner fender or the engine, there maybe a faulty relay in the circuit too. good luck, Chuck

Check engine light was on then went off now back onagain

Q1: What to do if my "Check Engine" light is on?
A1: The simplest way is to visit your local dealer for proper diagnostic. They have all the equipment and information needed to correct the problem. The problem might even be covered by the manufacturers warranty and possibly repaired free of charge.

Q2: Is it safe to drive if my "Check Engine" light is on?
A2: It really depends what code is stored and what caused it. In worst cases driving with "Check engine" light may cause more damage to the vehicle. A car may even stall while driving. If your check engine light came on, I'd certainly recommend to visit your dealer or a mechanic as soon as possible, just to be on a safe side. If the Check Engine light is flashing, this means that the engine computer (ECM) has detected that your engine is misfiring, which could damage your catalytic converter. Have the your vehicle inspected as soon as possible.
