Question about 1998 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

98 caravan blower motor

Motor only works on high. I dropped the glove box and don't see anything with 4 wires. Can you better discribe the resistors. I see a conection with 2 wires that goes into the duct and attaches to what looks like a condensor.

Thanks so much for your help.

Where is the heater resistor on a 2005 dodge dakota? Behind glove box?

should be just above the blower motor. You will need to remove the glove box door to gain access.

Blower moter does not work on high

I have had to replace my blower motor relay on my 2003 Dodge Caravan twice. I think the blower resistor is is under the hood on the firewall.
But, the relay module is on the inside on the passenager side. Open the glove box. Then pull the hinge tabs so that the glove box door drops all of th eway down. Look into the opening and you will see the relay. The part was about $12 at Autozone and can be replaced in about 5 minutes.
My blower motor would only work on high both times. Quick, simple, easy and inexpensive repair. Once you see the module, you will be amazed at how easy this repair is. The hardest part is finding it behind your glove box.

I have a 2002 Dodge Caravan. The fan switch only works on high. Any solutions ?

terrypam92, It sounds to me like you have a blower motor resistor problem. When the resistor is burnt out the default for the system is to run on high only. You need to locate the resistor which is in the air box of your system. It is usually under the dash panel on the passenger side of the vehicle. (behind the glove box or near the firewall and very close to the blower motor itself) You are looking for a unit which has a four wire plug attached to it. Remove the unit (usually screws or
5.5 milimeter bolts) and replace and test the speeds before replacing anything else that has been removed. Good luck with this.

Heater only run on high speed

Hello Sanda.

The blower speed system on your car goes through a resistor to give various speeds.
The reason it still works on high is that when set on high it doesn't go through that resistor.

It gets direct battery voltage.
The resistor is not too expensive and easy to replace.

To replace;
  1. Open the glove box.
  2. Flex both sides of the glove box bin inward near the top far enough for the rubber glove box stop bumpers to clear the sides of the glove box opening, then roll the glove box downward.
kiltylake_143.gif
  1. Reach through the glove box opening to access and disconnect the instrument panel wire harness connector for the blower motor resistor from the resistor connector receptacle.
  2. Reach through the glove box opening to access and disconnect the blower motor pigtail wire connector from the resistor connector receptacle.
  3. Remove the two screws that secure the blower motor resistor to the evaporator housing.
  4. Remove the blower motor resistor from the evaporator housing.
There you are. Thank you for using FixYa.

How do you change the blower motor on a 2004 dodge caravan

hello,

1.First dissable the air bag system

2. open the glove compartment, squeeze the side in to release the glove box stops and lower glove box.

3.You will see the Blower Motor Resistor directly behind the glove box.

4.There will be two pig tails (one vehicle harness, one resistor), remove pig tails, remove two screws to free resistor.

5.Replace resistor, reverse removal procedure.

Done!!

Take care..

Have lost fan to heatr and ac...where is the fuse box or diagram?

1. Does the Blower work on High (or #4) only? If so then it is not the Front Blower Motor or the Relay that is bad, but it is the Resistor which is located behind the Glove box. Follow step #a. below and take out the Glove Box to access. It has 3 to 4 wires going into it. The wiring path is: Switches to the Resistor and then to the Motor.
2. The Front Blower Motor Relay is located in the IPM - Fuse and Relay Center. It is located in a box within the engine compartment. However: (restated) IF the Blower does only work on High then this Relay is good and you should only replace the Resistor Only. The Identification and Location of the Relays and Fuses is located on the back side (inside) of the IPM cover. Remove the cover. The Front Blower Motor Relay is the same Type (size and shape) as several other Relays in the panel. Switch out the Front Blower Motor Relay with a non-engine operation Relay for a function that you know works. Recheck the operations of both functions. If the Front Blower Relay now works and the other function now does not work, it was the Relay was bad and needs to be replaced.
a. Disconnect the Negative Cable from the Battery and wait at least two (2) minutes to deactivate the Airbag Sensors.
b. Remove the Glove Box.
c. Disconnect the Electrical Connection.
d. Unbolt/Unscrew the bolts/metal screws and remove the Resistor.
Installation is reverse of above.

How easy or much time it take to change a front blower fan on a 2001 grand caravan and can it be done at home?

It is easy and takes about 1-hour to change out.
However, before rushing to the conclusion that the Blower Motor is bad....
1. Does the Blower work on High (or #4) only? If so then it is not the Motor it is the Resistor which is located behind the Glove box, mounted onto/into the Fire Wall. Follow step #a. below and take out the Glove Box to access. It measures approximately 3 1/2 inches wide by 1 1/2 inches high, and has 3 to 4 wires going into it.
2. Have you already checked and/or replaced the Front Blower Motor Relay located in the Fuse and Relay Center. If not you should do this first before anything. However if the Blower does only work on High then this Relay is good and you should only replace the Resistor Only.
I am very convinced that it is either the Relay the Resistor as these fail far more times than the Motor.
a. Disconnect the Negative Cable from the Battery and wait at least two (2) minutes to deactivate the Airbag Sensors.
b. Remove the Glove Box.
c. Disconnect the Electrical Connection.
d. Remove the two (2) screws holding the Air Housing to Lower Air Intake Housing.
e. Remove the two (2) screws holding the Recirculation Door Actuator.
f. Disconnect the wire harness from the clips holding them onto the Lower Intake Housing.
g. Remove the three (3) screws holding the Lower Air Intake Housing to the Lower half of the Evaporator Housing.
h. Push the rubber grommet of the blower motor wires throught the hole in the Lower Air Intake Housing.
i. Remove the Lower Air Intake Housing from the Evaporator Housing and Upper Air Intake Housing.
j. Manipulate the Recirculation Door to have access to the three (3) screws holding the Blower Motor to the Blower Housing in the bottom of the Evaporator Housing.
k. Gently bend the Recirculation Door so that you can remove the Blower Motor and Blower Wheel from the Blower Housing.
l. Remove the Blower Motor and Blower Wheel.
Some Blower Motors do not come with the Blower Wheel. Remove the retaining clip from the Shaft of the Blower Wheel and remove the Wheel off the Shaft.

Same problem on my Caravan. Heater/AC fan for front only works on high. Where is the relay/resistor for this one and how do you get to it?

Hi,
The problem is probably the resistor. But it also could be a burned terminal in the 4 prong plug that attaches to the resistor. There will be burn marks on one of the prongs of the resistor if this is it.
its a very common, We see it all the time ,blower motor resister is not good and need to have it replaced
most common place to be located is in the HVAC box beside the blower motor
However Most newer vehicles have a Blower Motor Resister in line with the Speed Control for the Blower Motor, and it may have gone bad. Any decent Auto Parts Store should be able to look up your car, and determine if it uses a 'Blower Motor Resistor', and tell you the cost. You will need at least a Haynes Manual, or Chjilton's Manual for your car, in order to locate where the 'Blower Motor Resistor' is.
Thanks for contacting Fixya.
