Sorry to inform you, there is no relay, if there were, it would be located in the fusebox under the hood. It is your switch located on your column. You can hotwire it by finding a red wire on the connector and hooking to + 12 on battery.

Check that two fans are turning on when you turn the a/c on or when it gets to 222 deg. F according to the gauge, and shuts off when it gets down to 212 deg. F.

May have a problem with relays, wiring contacts at the relays, fuse, or the relays themselves. Also, the fans on Cadillac Devilles from 1997 have multiple speeds depending on demand for cooling.

In summary, I would check fans.

What would be the most common problem besides the fuse, that my fans are not working and thus may be the reason my car is overheating and the solution to it. I have a 1986 Cadillac De Ville 4 Door V 8. I...

It could be several things.
1. Fan relay, as this controls power to the fan.
2.Blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker, usually both located in the fuse panel
3. Thermostat that tells the fan relay to start based on heat at the radiator.

Each of these need to be verified as working properly prior to any additional troubleshooting.

Our fan stopped working

check for power and ground at the fan. about 228 degrees is gm's temp for starting the fans. if no fan at that temp, check primary and secondary relays for power ground and signal from the pcm. signal should come from ect( coolant temp sensor for the computer, not the gauge)
