Question about 1993 GMC Sierra K1500

1997 gms 1500 with 5.7. replaced fuel pump this summer, this fall engine started stumbiling when accelerating. did basic tune up (plugs, rotor, etc) added injector cleaner. truck continued running bad with occasional backfire. Truck died, finally got it started now will not start unless primed and only runs if constant priming. good fuel pressure - actually seemed a bit high.

I had an Oldsmobile that was doing the same thing and I also replaced map sensor,crank sensor, cam sensor, electronic module, and many more items. Even put it on a computer scanner and it said that all systems checked out ready to start and run. (and it woudn't even start then unless I primed it)I had done this before I replaced everything. Finally a friend of mine (who was helping me diagnosis this problem and had his on automotive shop)said well the only thing left is the computor and after replacing it never had anymore problems. Has a tune up been done recently? If not may want to replace the plugs , wires,cap and ignition rotor. Also, find out if the previous owner had ever changed the fuel pump. The fuel filter is located on the the fuel pump assembly and can become clogged to create a lean fuel condition and make the engine sluggish.

Check your fuel pressure it should be 60-66 psi with the key on and engine off.If its not within these specs then the fuel pump is faulty and needs to be replaced.If the fuel pressure is within the specs then remove the mass air flow sensor and clean the small wires inside of it using a non-chlronated brake cleaner then let it dry for 10 minutes and re-install it.

1997 chevy blazer 4.3L cold hard start have to add gas to carb to start hot start is fine changed fuel filter and battery new battery it will eventually start but runs down battery.


There may be a problem with the fuel pump itself or the truck may need a basic tune-up. Those would be the first two things to check. Pull a spark plug and see how it looks. If it is in really bad shape, it won't be able to fire properly and this will lead to hard starting. A set of plugs and plug wires can really wake up an older engine. The second thing to check if those are ok would be the fuel pump itself. It may be weak and take longer to build proper fuel pressure. This will have to be checked by a mechanic. The fuel pressure is very high and there are special tools that will be needed.

I have 97 dodge ram 1500. Once tha truck reaches operating temp. it will stall at idle. Some times you drive it and it runs fine then you stop at a store get a snack and then it wont start with out pumping...


A few things actually lol. How long since its last tune up? A dirty air filter, worn spark plugs and wires and cap and rotor can cause a poor idle and stalling. Not to mention a dirty fuel filter. The fuel filter is in the gas tank unfortunatlly :(
Try giving it a basic tune up " about 45 dollars" and see if that helps. Good luck.

The best way to help find the problem, is to have a fuel pressure test done on it, that will tell if the fuel pump is weak, or the fuel pressure regulator is malfunctioning. If the pressure is low, the fuel pump is weak,
if it is high, the fuel regulator is at fault.

Cranks but won't start.


It should be tune up as replace the cap, rotor, spark plugs, wires, PCV vale and Mass flow meter. so many problem when this happen.

I have a 2001 chevy express 1500 v6 it wont start i check fuel pump,fuses and replaced distributor cap and rotor. havent check spark plugs or wires. it wont start...


Check for broken timing belt. Put a screew into spark plug head put the other end close but not touching to a metal engine part. have some one check for spark while you turn over engine. if thei is no spark check with distributor cap off if the rotor rotates when engine is being tuned over. if not then check timing chain. 2000 vw passat 1.8t wont start


First make sure you do a basic tune-up on the car i.e. replacing spark plug wires, spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor button, etc. Secondly, the plugs are probably just wet from fuel from not starting. The low oil pressure light coming on is normal when trying to start the car. Make sure to check for codes too and don't press the accelerator when starting the car, otherwise it will flood the engine.

Fuel pump is most likely the cause. Probably just barely making the required pressure to start. Needs to maintain 60-66 psi while cranking to start.
