Hi i put my 2001 Mercedes clk230 automatic in the garage over the winter and when i went out the battery was flat and the key refused to open the boot to allow access to the battery :( so i put a connection on the positive terminal in the engine bay and hey presto i managed to open the boot and charge the battery unfortunately now the problem i have is that although the key opens and locks the car doors boot etc it will not turn in the ignition to start the car or even release the steering lock or allow me to put the auto box in neutral to even get it out the garage??
A the problme is that the ignition is glued shut. i am a mechanic i see these thing every DAy.

You need to drop tank and empty it. clean insides with clean dry rag. No smoking, droplights or any flame source nearby when working!!! Change filter. Some water may remain in injection system. use dry gas in new fuel to mitigate effects.

Did you try jacking up the car at the front then wiggle the steering as you turn the key? Did you try a spare key? Spray inside the mechanism with WD40. Try putting the key in at different depths and turning.
The lock cylinder is a replace only item.

I have a 2001 C240 with the same issue. I removed the positive battery cable from the battery and kept it off for 30 seconds then replaced it. Everything was reset and the key worked.

Try pressing the key down little bit while you are trying to turn it towards ignition, at the same time slowly turning the steering wheel clockwise and counter clockwise ( it's locked but it still moves a little bit), it should release the steering wheel lock.
