I am assuming that you know this since the temp gauge is not reading at normal temperature. I say this because I have had people in the past tell me that the engine wasn't warming up only to find out that the real problem was the heater wasn't working. They are two completely different issues. That said, the primary reason that an engine won't come up to operating temp is that the thermostat is either
Most likely the thermostat broke. I expect that you have an older Hyundai and never had the anti-freeze changed. When the engine is cold the thermostat is closed which causes the engine to warm up more quickly. A warm engine runs more efficiently (less gas) and more smoothly. When the engine temp reaches a certain temp the thermostat opens and then allows the hot engine coolant to run through the lines to the heater core. The heater blows air over the heater core which produces the warm air that warms up the cabin. Thermostats used to be cheap and easy to change. I would suggest a web search for how to replace the thermostat. Something like 'hyundai accent 2002 replace thermostat".
I have a 1994 Volvo 850 that did the same thing. It was the fuel pump relay, a $50 part that is easy to replace yourself. It could also be the thermostat ($75) in the air flow box. Some people remove the bad thermostat and fix the air flow tube in the position with the air flow coming in from the front of the car. People say you can freeze your engine in winter if you live in a cold climate. It rarely gets cold where I live so it wasn't a problem for me. You do get better gas mileage without that thermostat. I ran my car without the thermostat for about a year and then put a new one in because I started having rough idling problems when the engine had not warmed up yet. The thermostat funnels in hot air from the manifold (?) until the engine warms up and then the spring in the thermostat closes off the tunnel with that hot air flow and opens up the tunnel with the cooler air flow coming in from the front of the car. If the thermostat quits working, the hot air keeps coming in and the engine shuts off after about 10 minutes of driving. The car will usually start right up after you wait a few minutes. These symptoms don't usually show any engine codes.
VERY CAREFULLY open the Radiator and top it off - when the car is warm - warn - not hot - for safety - get a pair of thick gloves - and put a medium towel over the radiator cap - open it slowly - feel for pressure - - you can do this cold too - -open the radiator when cold - - then start and warm the engine - usually 8 minutes or so then top off the water or anti-freeze and your heater will work -- if for any reason it doesn't - top it off again [ some take extra ] - if that doesn't work then you will most likely need to rev the engine as the water pump blades [ looks a little like a turbine] are wearing - not dead - just wearing - or your thermostat quit functioning perfectly - -they will work sorta of kinda - randomly but will not always be open far enough at idle - - I would be sure to replace the thermostat if nothing else works and you want to do something internal to get at the problem so - 1 - top radiator 2- check thermostat [ got it out of order above] 3-water pump
Fill the radiator completely with coolant mixture. Let the engine warm up 10 to 15 mins. Is the upper radiator hose warm? If yes, then the water pump and thermostat are good. If all this works, then the leak is somewhere else. Hope this helps.

if you have put stop leak in the car it can clog your heater core.
check your thermostat
check your engine oil if it looks milky you have a head gasket problem aslo check your coolant if there is oil in your coolant you have a head gasket problem
Either you are out of coolent or the compressor is not working.
First check the fuses, then lift the hood and have a friend turn the air on. The compressor should cycle, if not take it to a mechanic. If it does cycle you are low on freon, take it to a mechanic for a system charge. Make sure they check for leaks first.
