Stalled and won't start like out of gas

Olds 89 cierra coupe, running fine (except for no heat) went to store, Put it in park and it stalled seems like its out of gas.(just got gas few hours earlier. I think its the fuel pump. Is there a test to check it, is it in the tank? Previously, before this happened a month or so ago I heard this metal on metal passenger side clicking noise and when it clicked it made my engine rev-up and down while stopped. My rpm's were going up and down. Then I lost the heat, and now it won't start. It turns over but nothing is catching. Checked all of the wire and everything seems to be attached. Please help!

Mine is doing the same thing! It acts like its out of gas. it runs rough when i start it up and as soon as i hit the gas a little it dies. Im wondering if it is the fuel pump also. It sounds like mine is doing the same thing.

Try cycling the key (on and off) and listen to see if you hear anything coming from the tank. You should be able to hear swirling from fuel pump. You can have it hooked up to a diagnostic computer and this would tell you fuel pump pressure. Or if this is not an option try starting fluid (ether) in air box. If car starts for a short time then you have spark, so more than likely it is in the fuel delivery. I hope this helps!

What grade of gas dose a 2003 eclipse take

87 will be fine. But I always run 89 seems to be a little better burning gas. But with the price of gas these days I'd run 87. Just run some fuel injector cleaner once in a while.

Took RAV 4 to NC mountains and back twice this weekend. It ran fine but started it this morning and it would stall when I took my foot off gas pedal

I would change your fuel filter. The mountains, and the sudden jerking would provide a great chance for the fuel to pull up any nasties, and then run them through the line.

2.8 engine Would start when cool, but stall after

89 cierra? It should be DIS ignition so you can't have the timing too high. You said it has fuel and spark. Fuel pressure and injection pulse. Does it try to start if you spray carb cleaner into it?

1995 gmc jimmy-won't accelerate wants to stall

could be the fuel pump ...you will need to do a fuel pressure test on it ..the pressure should be 63 anything lower even so much as a few lbs will cause this to happen ...as well if it sat that long i would consider a complete tune up and check all vacuum lines for dry-rot

89 ram charger starts and stops, running irratically - HELP !!!

what you can do to test the idle control motor, is spray some brake cleaner or other thin, clean finishing solvent on it to let it release when the gas pedal is released. it may just be getting hung up after the vehicle warms. hope this helps
