I had the same symptoms...but the garage told me that this was a failure in the antitheft circuit (referring to the little unique code fitted into the ignition key). They were not sure of it, but suggested that I disable the feature which would cost $195 ($40 of which was for garage time to debug). I am hoping to find out how to do this myself.

I hope U haven't already had the shop do the repair. First U should see if the battery has the power to crank your engine, U can take the battery to an Auto Parts store to check it. If not the battery then it could be the starter. But as far as cost, yes so repair shops will charge to much if U let them. I would check the BBB on the shop.

Hope this helps some

It almost sounds as if you had some sort of security system in the car that disables the ignition and prevents the car from starting. How do you know that you have power to the starter? Does the engine actually turn over? If that is the case, you might have a bad wire connection from the starter to the main power supply.

99 Regal GS 3800 supercharged wont crank key in ignition all lights go off and car does nothing help!!!

Sounds like you may have possibly TWO problems here. The ignition key not turning past the run position or even to the run position is most likely a lock cylinder issue and may be fixed by replacing the ignition lock cylinder, As for the power being killed when turning the ignition to the start position, that sounds like a defective ignition switch. these items are two seperate parts. The reason for the turn signal issue may be related to the ignition switch fault.
Hope this helps.

I have a 2004 Dodge SX 2.0 and it wont turn on..the lights come on and the accessory lights come on but nothing from the engine..it doesnt even make a noise when i try to turn it on..it doesnt turn over at...

it sounds like your lock rod cylinder in your sterring colum is broken. That can be expensive to fix! $500 or so. There is an alternitive though. Go to a alarm and window tint shop. Have the install remoteless key start up on you car. Car will start up fine. All your doing is bypassing the ignition swith and sending a signal to your starter directly. It will work beleive me. To check if this is your problem run a cable or wire from the starter to your batter from under the hood, if the car starts(make sure the keys are in the on postion) its your lock rod cylinder! If it doesnt its a bad starter or ignition switch...most likely ignition switch.

WONT START

Thai is either ignition cylinder or starter coil, or a problem with starter motor/wirings to starter motor.

The starter motor must be energized directly (in neutral, and possibly using a remote switch) to check that is working.

If the starter motor is fine, check that there is power coming to starter motor when you ignite.
If there is no power, test power at ignition and eventually replace ignition.

My car wouldn't start one day

The lock cylinder(where you insert the key) fires up a ignition switck that could be bad.I ntfires up accessories on first clic k, and engages the start on full crank....If the car was not turning over, switch could be bad,or if it has a clutch switch(If manuel trans) You will have to test for power at solenoid on starter with a test light.(very cheap and simple to use) If there is power when you try to cranknit at starter solenoin, then its probobly your starter....if no power and a stick shift, you can bypass te clutch switch to test by unplugging at switch and connecting the two wires together...if automatic,it is most likely the ignition switch, technically not the lock cylinder...hope this helps....Lee
