Have you had the code scan to find out what trouble codes are stored in the computer. You will need that to find out if it is serious.

Sounds like you have a code for evap leak detected. thats why you have been told to change the gas cap. this means you have a vapour leak in your systam. check all line and hoses to and from gas tank for leak. the filler hose and lines may be leaking. good luck please rate this.

First and fopremost, there was a reason why ur engine check lite came on. U shouldn't have just changed parts just like that. U will need to get to someone who is knowledgeable about these issues to he\lp u. When the engine check light comes on, it means a diagnostic trouble code has arised. Someone needs to check to c wut that trouoble code is and tell u what the code means and possible causes for it to be coming up. Get someone who is knowldgeable about it

My check engine and check fuel cap light keep coming on after i changed the gas cap twice and reset the light it came back on what could this be. I drive a 06 lincoln navigator

You need to diagnose any codes you get
& smoke test the evap system, to find a
problem

Seldom does throwing on parts with a name similar
to a code work

Codes have nothing to do with installing parts

Clearing codes, clears all data needed to diagnose
the failed system & the evap system only runs every few
days,so you done as far as codes helping

Check fuel cap light coming on, replaced twice - still on. ideas?

It sounds like you have a large evap leak. The cap is most likely not the cause. You could have a hole in any numerous evap lines or in the fuel filler neck. Also the canister vent solenoid could be malfunctioning. Your best bet is to have an emissions certified shop test the system with a smoke tester. They need to have a scan tool capable of actuating the canister vent solenoid.

I have an 2004 Infiniti FX35,the service engine light came on, I read the owners manual and it said it might just need the gas cap replaced, so I bought one from the dealer, the light stayed on, I had a...

You need to have the code pulled, then cleared. That should have been done with your diagnostic tests. Many parts places like AutoZone will do this for you for free. It could be something as simple as a gas cap but it could also be more serious like a catalytic converter.
If there is a fuel vapor leak, it will record the same code as a faulty gas cap. That would mean that you need a new filler hose which is where you put the nozzle in to fill up your car with gas. This is a more expensive fix than a gas cap. I am guessing that the code which was pulled suggested a gas cap OR something more serious.
You may have more than one code being recorded. Your best bet would be to disconnect your battery for 20 minutes or so, then drive the car until the check engine light comes on again then take it to have the codes pulled. Those codes sometimes stack up and maybe it wasn't reset after you replaced the cap.

2005 check engine light comes on. had advanced

If the light is out, no worries. if it comes back on and the cap is tight, there may be other problems and a qualified repair shop will need to diagnose that for you. It may have a Evaporative Emission Leak.

Check engine light on

Check engine light has **** to do with any of what you listed. It only relates to pressures and sensors. Retorque your throttle body, check resistance on your sensors and if that doesn't work change the map sensor. They're bad on these vehicles

Check engine light.

I have had the same problem recently. I did some searching on the internet and came up with nothing. I went out to my car and decided to take a look at the gas cap. I noticed that after turning it and hearing the clicks that are supposed to tell you it is tight, the cap came off again with no effort at all. I brought the gas cap to Advance Auto Parts and I found out that the spring mechanism inside the top of the gas cap was worn from use. This was causing the vapors to leak out inturn causing the check engine light to come on. I bought a replacement STANT gas cap (specifically for the 2006 Suzuki Forenza) for $9 and the light has been off for the past two weeks. The dealer wanted $80 to diagnose the problem and then another $30 if they needed to order a gas cap. So, I decided $9 was better to waste then $110 trying to figure out the problem. I hope this helps.
