Question about 1986 Nissan Maxima

Where can I get an engine diagram?

I have water running out of the valley and think it's the cross over pipe. I don't think it's the head gasket as there is no water in my oil.

Check or have the electric cooling fan or fans checked, to see if they are coming on, and the radiator cap checked. You've done everything else.

SOURCE: Starter motor and ignition switch and O2 sensor and pipe 1997 Nissan Maxima

You need to remove all of the air intake and other things behind the battery. The start motor is held in with two bolts. You might need a breaker bar to break loose the one bold as I did. Once you remove all of the air intake equipment. This will help you gain access to the starter motor. You might not need to remove all the air intake equipment I know it made it alot easier for me to remove the starter and I took it to the auto store and had it tested.

SOURCE: anti freeze leeking

I have seen a couple of these now with headgasket leaks to the outside of the block just as you describe. I solved them both with a stop-leak additive, not something I would normally use, but I really didn't want to pull the heads because the exhaust studs always break on these engines. I would find out for sure where the leak is before proceeding though. If it's a hose or frost plug, you'll have to repair it properly.

check the coolant flow, you know, how in detail it flows. I had a car,Buick I think, that cooling was entering the cylinders,so I checked in total detail how coolant flows and found out it WAS NOT the head gasket but a plastic piece the covered the valley (covered the top of the engine)and it was broken (from wear??)so when I replaced it (some seals),it solved the problem. I'm glad I didn't take the heads off ,machined them, replace head gaskets.....etc. Hope I helped.

sounds to me like the head gasket needs replacing,it's letting water in the engine and causing steam to come out of the exhaust pipe. check the water level,,,,,,,

My Mercury Sable keeps blowing out its freeze plug after replacing it for the third time I put water in and it started running out the exhaust pipe when I started the car. I have done some research said it...

Why would you install one freeze plug, when water
comes out the exhaust

You have a bad head gasket

If head is bad, you will find that out
when you pull it and have it checked
for cracks,pressure tested etc.

next step is to remove the intake, you are on the right track, worse i ever found was a cracke block, but that was in a 61 t-bird which was repaired with jb weld ten yrs ago and still holding, but the intake gasket sounds right

Oil keeps getting in to the water

if thats the case you should have water in the oil also, that means you have a blown head gasket

Leaking oil put of tail pipe, is the cooling sensor important, head gasket blown how do you know

Never seen oil come from tail pipe (unless a piston has a broken ring or a hole burned in it.) Cooling sensor tells the computer the engine temp and the computer turns the fan on through the fan relay. Very important for it to work. A blown head gasket will make the engine overheat, can cause white smoke from tailpipe, coolant loss and extremely rough running. Also can cause coolant in engine oil or oil in radiator. What you may be seeing may be water mixed with carbon from the inside of the pipe. Excessive water coming form pipe is also a head gasket symptom. A compression test or cylinder leakdown test or a radiator hydrocarbon test will tell you if gasket has failed.

If you have a pipe leaking you need to replace it. Only onei can think of thats close to intake is the In/out to heater matrix.

But if its leaking from waterpump it need a new gasket.
