2002 ford 7.3 block heater plug

I took it out of heater to fix do not remember witch way it goes back in our doesn,t it matter it could go both ways thanks scott

If you mean the hoses ... i generally have the input hose closest to the firewall.

Gasoline or diesel? Not all vehicles have a block heater provision. There is a generic heater that you can install in the lower radiator hose.

Diesel has trouble starting


hi, if you have any problems starting any type of diesel engine then this is a very good indication that one or more of the glow plugs need replacing, to get you home you can try turning the ignition on and then wait for the glow plug light to go off then instead of trying to start the engine turn it off then back on again, doing this usually gets it started just to get you home but this wont allways work.

Its best you replace glow plugs sooner rather than later as it could leave you stuck without a vehicle.

To change the glow plugs follow these quick instructions.
1. Look where the injectors go into the cylinder head then just under these you will see a smaller plug that will have a fixed wire this wire will be running from glow plug to glow plug this wire is held onto the glow plug by an 8m nut undo this nut on top of all the glow plugs, once undone you will notice that one of the glow plugs has two wires the other wire is the wire that carries the power to all the glow plugs so just remember witch glow plug this goes to.
2. now once you have removed the connecting power wire remember witch way it runs so as to get it back on the right way round it doesnt matter to much but might be a bit tight if you put it on the wrong way round.
3. Now how to undo and remove the glow plugs: To remove you will need a deep 10m socket place this over the top of the glow plug push down to ensure tight fit then undo this glow plug will then pull out (make sure their is no muck around the glow plug that can fall inside the cylinder so just check)
once you have it out its best you replace all the glow plugs as once one goes you will find that the others wont be to far behind.
4. Fitting new glow plugs. When your fitting the new glow plugs put them into their hole and gently screw in by hand to make sure you dont cross thread the thread as this can be a nightmare to put right. tighten the glow plugs in as much as you can by hand then nip them up using 10m socket and extension bar now dont over tighten them as this will damage the thread just tighten up till just after they stop then you should find they are ok.
Refit the wire loom on top of all the glow plugs remembering to fit the main power wire to the first plug make sure you tighten the nuts up properly on top holding the wire in place.
Once you have done this you are now ready to start your vehicle you should now find it starts with no problems.

If you still have problems starting you need to now start looking at things like the diesel filter or even the diesel pump, ill explain about these in my next post ok

I forgot to pay attention to the heater hose connections on the heater core to see which hose goes on which connection. Any help for my senior moment?


Hi, my name is Shaun. I will do my best to help you with your problem. The good news is, for all intensive purposes, it really doesn't matter where the hoses go, as long as you are referring to the connections directly to the heater core. You should have two aluminum pipes coming out of your heater core where the rubber hoses attach. As long as the hose fits snugly, attach it. All the heater core is is a small radiator that cycles hot water from the block. You blow air across it and you have heat. There are no check valves or anything to worry about. One thing you do want to keep in mind when reattaching the hoses, though, is to reattach them in a way that allows them to conform to their most natural state. In other words, don't try to criss-cross them, stretch them, or twist them. This could result in leaks later on. Hope this helps. Have a great day!

WITCH WAY DO you hookup heater hoses?


Most times inlets are different sizes and only go on one way. If not, it really doesn't matter. generally if same size, I put the one that feeds at the bottom if they are in line vertically to lessen chances of air-lock.

Proper placement of a 351 windser dist. in reference to the rotor button to block. witch way does it point.


it really doesnt matter where it points,as long as you plug #1 plug to where the rotor points to,with the crank at top dead center on the timing marks,just to where you know it is.But if its really important to you to have it done like the factory sets it then let me know since i own a Bronco with a 5.8

Hard starting Ford Diesel


HAd the same problem turned out to be the fuel tank selector vlv not sealing off m/t tank on return line so when truck sat cold fuel would drain off injectors making me reprime injectors (airbound)
found this by dumb luck I got a hole punched in front tank (muddin )so I removed it and ran off back tank I observed fuel draining out unhooked return line next morning
replaced valve (and tank) problem went away
Disected old vlv (broken O-Ring)

by the way quick way to ck glow plugs ,What's your voltmeter on your dash doing when wait to start just goes out -If it's bouncing There workin

97 Ford F250 diesel block heater shorts out when I plug it in


A block heater is just a simple heating element. There are no fuses b/c you run house voltage (120V) out to it, and those are on breakers, so no need for 12V truck fuses.

Block heaters can range from 500 watts on up to 1500 watts. U know those heaters in Wal Mart that only go up to 1500 watts? That's as much as heaters (including block heaters) are allowed to pull off house current. Remember, use a heavy gauge extension cord, not that 100' long skinny thing. That's not good.

OK, to check the block heater, all you need is a simple voltmeter. Switch it to Ohms (resistance). That's the one with the Omega sign. Put one lead on one flat terminal on the plug of your block heater, and put the other lead on the other flat terminal. Leave the ground (round) terminal alone.

If it reads infinity, or open, then your block heater is bad. It's an open circuit.

If it reads resistance, then it should be good. I don't know what readings for a Powerstroke they should have, b/c often resistance changes with how hot/cold it is outside.

If you plug it in to your house and you hear arcing/sparking, then don't use it until you figure out what's doing that. The block heater is usually on the passenger side, although on Powerstrokes it could be different. However if you follow your plug, you're gonna find where that heater goes. Chances are some idiot has pinched the wire.

If you plan on replacing it, soak it down good with penetrate oil. It's gonna be a bear. And remember to drain your antifreeze down.

Block heaters are great b/c it reduces wear on your glow plugs, plus you get hot heat almost instantly after you start.

Plugging it in any long than two hours before you crank it is a waste of time. It can only get the block so warm, and it does it really quick.
