Enegine has loud knocking noise in 2000 Honda Civic EX

The vehicle has 123,000 miles. The noise a sounds like something knocking... dont know if it is inside the engine or not. Not a ping. It has been making the noise for 1 1/2 -2 years. The noise is at it's worst when we crank it up and it is idling in park and when you put it into Drive and first accelerate. The timing belt was replaced a couple of years ago. It is an automatic transmission. We have been the only owner of the vehicle. We need to sell it, but I need to know what this knocking noise is and how to fix it!!

Yes. After it cranks and has sat for a bit, the knocking fades a little.... in neutral, you can barely hear the noise at all and after you get above appx 30mph or so, the knocking becomes pretty faint.

not low on oil. this is louder than the knocking noise you hear from being low on oil.

Check your flywheel bolt, it could be loose.

Why is there a very loud knocking sound in my 2000 camry engine?

The short answer is there is something loose or broken inside the engine.
Someone will need to narrow down where the noise is coming from and then the actual source. The engine may have to be disassembled to find out.

I have a 2000 Honda Civic with 64,000 miles on it. Sometimes when I go over pumps there is a ping/boing sound coming from the front drivers side. It kinda sounds like a spring popping. What could this be...

This can be caused by something broken, loose, or worn out in your suspension or driveline. If your vehicle handles relatively fine, and you dont feel any shimmying or bucking in the steering wheel, the noise can be coming from a faulty swaybar endlink or cv axle starting to going bad.

You or your technican will have to visually and physically inspect the items.... suspension and driveline issues that are not remedied quickly can easily turn into a bigger or unsafe problem for you.

I was driving about 30 miles an hour and ran over a plastic box. It looked like a peie of ice and by the time I saw that it wasn't there were too many cars coming in the other lane to get out of the way....

I would suggest you jack up the vehicle, secure it on jack stands and look for anything that may be trapped under your vehicle. Also, check if anything is broken and your problem could be from something broken (splash shield) or something trapped from the item you unfortunately drove over.

Good Luck

Loud noise when press on the gas

see if te noise is there when stationary. if so hold the revs around 1500 to 2000 rpm if it rattles around that, then it is the heat sheild on the down pipe section thats broken free.
