Question about 1993 Geo Metro

96 geo metro gets no spark with blown 15amp fuse

Recently, I replaced the serpentine belt on my geo metro; Since then, I have a 15amp fuse that keeps blowing. There is no identification on the fuse box, so I don't know what it is.When this happens, I get no spark and the dash lights go out. When I put a 30amp fuse in there, it runs fine; except for the wire burning smell. However, it will blow a 20amp fuse. My key has been broken off in the ignition for a while now. The buzzer also quits working. The problem is getting progressively worse. Any Ideas?

The fuse box is located under the driver dash. It is a 15amp fuse in a row by itself furthest north when looking at it from underneath. Also, I continue to get slight corrosion on my ground battery terminal

Hi
You have a intermittent dead short somewhere on this circuit.

Putting in a heavier fuse will only lead to tears !
You will either end up with a loom burn out, or possible fire.

If the problem has only appeared since you replaced the belt, I suspect it is something you have disturbed in the wiring, perhaps in the alternator area?
A trapped or chaffed wire is also a possibility.
You need to inspect the wiring in the area you worked in thoroughly, and also around the steering lock wiring multi plug connection, and if you can´t see anything, you will have to let a sparkie look at it.

Good Luck !

Give me a fixYa rating if you think I have helped.

Sounds like you may have pinch a wire when doing the belt.Check that, and Don't use a 30amp fuse in place of a 15amp fuse if you want to keep your car running, and not have to replace the whole wiring harness or watch the fire dept.come and put your car out.

Please rate this a fixya

Notice the fuse description that sais IG-COIL 15amp. This fuse runs the coils and the PCM as you will notice the PCM is the last item listed in this curcuit.

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is located behind the right hand side of the glove box attached to the bottom right hand side.

Depending on mileage, Geo's have timing belt and it should be changed every 60k, if you've done all that's mentioned I suspect timing belt is broken.

My 1997 geo metro sqeals when started

this could be the serpentine belt at the front of the engine it could be warn and needs replacing, but this could also be the signe of a warn bearing ie idler bearing, waterpump bearing, alternator bearing, power stearing pump bearing, best to get it checked, as a belt is only a few bucks, where as the others could be allot more, should i say will be...hope this helps

No fire to coil replace coal and tested ignition

Try checking the timing belt. They will cause this issue if they are even slightly streched or worn .... because theys slkip and make engine jump time. you can replace it and should solve the problem after you get it back in time.
