My 2007 lexus RX350 battery conks out

I left my car in an airport lot for 7 days; the battery went dead. The dealer tells me that you cannot leave the car unoperating for that long since the car uses so much electrical power to keep its computers running.
How can a luxury vehicle have such a deficit?

The reply is not helpful; the battery is good.
I did not leave the car for a long period of time; just seven days.
the manufacturer attributes the problem to unboard computers.

I am looking for guidance regarding the Lexus assertion that one can not expect a running battery in a high powered car after seven days of inactivity.

  • wlfrank Jan 31, 2009

It was suggested that I turn off all electrical power on leaving my car for a period of time. How does one do this?

1 of 2 Mishaps accrued here as there is NO such Animal as it Being (NORMAL) for a Battery to DRAIN itself in 1-2--3-or even 6 weeks. Nothing in On or about this Car or ant others that Supports your Dealers Thoughts and Statement to you.

You have 1 of 2 things Going on here

  1. The Battery Is Unable to HOLD a Charge thus HAVE IT LOAD TESTED It Must Hold to at 9.5 Volts for 20 Seconds and have a 12.6 charge in it before this Procedure.
  2. You have A Draw on the Battery this Means Something in the Electrical System Is Pulling Power out of the Battery SLOWLY. this Requires a Battery Draw test
12 VOLT TEST LIGHT NEEDED
  1. Disconnect Negative Battery cable
  2. Clip End of Tester NEG. on Cable.
  3. POKE Sharp end Onto NEG. Post Of Battery
  4. Have A Helper Pull 1 by 1 Each Fuse from Fuse Box Putting them back as you go
  5. Until Test Light Goes Off when It Turns off as a result of a fuse Pulled
  6. That CUIRCIT is the One DRAWING Down the Battery
  7. Proceed to Track down Components in this CUIRCIT and repair as Needed
I Hope this is of Help to you and you can then Park At the airport for 14 days With No Problems
If this of Good ues to you PLEASE RATE ME FAIRLY Thank You, RejakWilson

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

While it is true that todays automobiles uses a lot of electronics (computer, alarm/security, SatNav, entertainment) even when ignition is off, such devices consumes only enough to retain memory, personal settings and other data. There consumption even negligible would have been factored in in the design of the overall electrical system, specifically the Ampere hour rating of the battery. I am more inclined to think that the alarm system has been triggered at some point in tine within the 7 days the car was left unattended. This then changes the scenario from standby to active and would cause higher consumption not to mention that the alarm would cause lights to flash, horn to blare and other reactions.

Offhand, recharge the battery and observe. It may also be worth your while to verify the security codes of your electronics as they tend to lock when battery is drained or removed. Additionally, you may want to have your alternator checked if it is sufficiently charging the battery.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Please do not remove the battery from the car or else you need to make trip to dealer if it activates antitheft system of the car and it lock the radio and ask for unlock code ,As this model car as high electrical components in them they tend to consume more power if you want your car start to even after a week of no use then you may need to change the car battery with higher
AH rating battery , usually case of the battery drain if unoffed interior lights or
electrical components which will consume the battery power within hours, next time you make long stop of your car make sure all the lights and c
electrical components are off...

Good luck...

it would be nice to know exactly what the dealer done to help you out. i would check battery after charging and then alternator if good then do a electrical load test on the entire vehicle to find out what if anything is shorted it is a easy test with proper tools. the car should have been just fine for 7 days with no problems but as stated above the alarm could have went off and weakened the battery. if at all possible leave it protected at home for 7 days with you not interfering with it and if their are no problems electrically then then problem could have been the alarm as stated above

Its a general matter that the battery gets discharged if not used for a long time, or there are chances of short circuiting due to many reasons which might have resulted in dead battery. just u need to charge the car's battery and if not charging then u need to replace the battery.

Charge it up and take it out of your car if you are not driving it and put in on a piece of wood on the floor. It will last longer.

2007 lexus 460ls battery goes dead if not driven for 2 days. what is wrong??

something is turned on and killing the battery. Check the trunk light....(does it really go out when the lid is closed?. Take the bulb (s) out and see if that makes a difference....also if you have one on the hood lid....do the same thing...and pull out the cig lighter too...and also the bulb in the glove box. Something that is NOT on your accessories power is staying on.

Hi
first I hope that you are well now
did you replaced the battery?
if yes, do this procedure and your car will be drivable.
switch ignition ON then OFF 10 times writhing10 seconds ( in total)
then switch ignition ON and leave it for 1 minute then you start the engine.
if you did not replace the battery yet, better you change it first

I have a lexus rx350 2011. Had dealer install remote start. Battery is dead after car sits for 7 days. Happened twice. Dealer says there is no problem. Had it to Lexus repair twice. It always starts...

fit a solar panel and wire it in direct to the battery ,this will cure the problem ,its the alarm thingy using all the current when car is left standing ,but what will you do when vehicle has its first annual vehicle mechanical inspection at three years old as this remote start is not part of the vehicle and as such is not on the certificate of homoglonation from manufacturer ,Also i always thought this sort of device was illegal as you cannot leave a running vehicle unattended as this is an offence under the road traffic act of 1947 .

Sounds as though when your battery died the engine imobiIiser locked down.
YOU MAY HAVE TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO A LEXUS DEALER AND HAVE THE MASTER KEY AND OTHERS REPROGRAMMED TO THE IGNITION...BUT
If you have your wallet key as well , try taking all to the airport. HOLD the card to the dash beside the ignition for at least 20 seconds, then try turning the key several times. I haven`t done an LS but the failsafe when a remote fails is to hold the key beside the ignition for at least 20 seconds ....
Also try the lock routine, but I think the issue is in dash..security needing to reboot to your key.
My understanding is that the lock routine re initialises the lock setstings when power is restored
