Toyota Celica 1988 - Drivers window not working.

Hi,        I bought a Toyota Celica 1988, I am very happy with it as it has engine and mechanical problems at all.  The only problem that it has is that the drivers electrical window stopped working.  This is how it happened, When I bought it the window wasn't woring, when i pressed the button, the window wouldn't even maka a move or a sound.  But... The next day the window started working miraculously.  The engine seemed to be in perfect state because it was moving up and down without any effort. Two days later the window stopped working again, it never worked again.  I knew by then that it was an electrical problem. Three weeks later,  the window on the other side started with problems,  If i would press the button on that side, it would work perfectly, but if i would press the button on the drivers side, it wouldn't start moving until i'd press the button on the other side of the vehicle. A friend of mine helped me with this problem, I cleaned the contacts of that button on the drivers side and the switch started working perfectly again.  Because of this, i thought that the button to move the drivers side window also had the contacts dirty, so I cleanned them meticulously. The problem persisted.   Another friend with some mechanical experience (I thought.....) Told me to get a new switch. I couldn't find the switch for my 88 model so he said i should try with the 89's model switch.  I did that and i completely broke the whole windows system. Not even the window on the roof works now.  Even with the 88's switch.  Maybe somebody could help me,  because I don't know if it could be the door controller ( A small red square box on the drivers door, where all the window cables seem to end.)  or if I broke something else with a short circuit.  Thanks a lot,                Nacho from Auckland, NZ.

Check under the Hood and see if you can Locate the Fuse Relay Box. There is a Relay in this Box for the Windows. Replace this Relay. You really need to try and Locate the Same Model Switch for the Drivers Door as that is the Problem there. Try and Find a Dealership in the States and see if they will Ship you one. Should not be a Problem. Just do a General Search for Dealerships in the USA and Pick. Let me know if the Relay does not work so we can go another Route for Repair. Please Rate my Solution, I need all the Help that I can Get! Thanks!

I have an 1988 Toyota Celica G/T.It hasn't been starting with the key I'm on my 2nd starter. But it does start when I stick a screw driver in the part that stickes out of the starter with another screw...

There may be a problem with the ground of the starter. The negative should run from the starter to the engine block and back to the battery via a cable connected to the block. Have the area where you attach the starter cleaned out using a wire brush or any cleaning tool that you have. Do the same with the bolts. Make sure to tighten the screws after cleaning.

1988 Toyota Celica GT4 Computer box

There is no problem with your computer box, it says 3S-GT on it, thats the way toyota did them back then. same with the 3S-FE (says 3S-F on the comp. box) and 3S-GE (3S-G on comp. box.) i dont recommend removin the cat. you will get defected (or waht is equivelant to a defect where you are) due to smog and stuff like that. Turbo timer is wired to the igntion system, no problems there. and as for gauges: get a pro to install them, but there should be zero trouble.

Does your car have a 5SFE engine? Is the oil cooler right behind the oil filter? There is a rubber gasket there that has been known to fail. I have never seen the cooler "fail"; it is always the gasket. Don't bypass it, it is there for a reason, and is NOT "overkill".

Rear view mirrors

It's usually a mechanical problem and they really aren't repairable.

I replaced the ones on my 83 Celica GT with replacement units that I bought on-line from Redneck Auto Parts for about $60 each.
