Question about 2002 GMC Sierra

1 Answer

Four wheel drive will not engage

I have a 2002 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71. The ESOF is not engaging, the lights do not come on, there is no noise coming from the servos and the service 4 wheel drive light came on in the message center. I have checked the fuse, which is fine.

There was no relay to reset, but when I looked under the hood, there is a different fuse labeled ATC that was blown. I changed that out and now it works.

Well, have you checked the relay which is under the hood? Also have you hooked it up to a computer at a local Auto Parts Store to see if it is throwing any codes? It could be a number of things but check the above two things first and let me know what you find and I can direct you from there.

On the front diff is a solenoid that locks in the four wheel drive. This is a common part to replace. Very easy also.

Four wheel won't engage

Theres a vacume dash pot under the battery box. It pulls a cable that engages the front diff. Put the vacume line and you'll have lights and four wheel drive. (it happened to my blazzer)
