Check fuses for Steering control module and connections to back of Display, same thing happens on Volvos usually fuse or heatsink on display control IC gets hot due to heat paste drying out clean and replace if possible or seek service agent , An OBD reader may possibly show up fault so you need to get a scan of the DT faults your local garage will do this quite cheap for you.

Further to previous submission about my terrifying experience in my Jag Sov 1995, after climbing steep hill only to find car would not stop at junction when brakes applied and engine revving, I forgot to...

In Michigan we just call them Public roads or goat trails(the same). The oil you see could be brake fluid or engine oil. The brake fluid problem will not correct itself and adding fluid will not remove air in the brake lines. The engine oil pan will not fix itself either, but adding oil may get you to a nearby repair place.

There are other leak points like the transmission, transfer case, and differential. Hard to say how far you can drive with any of these leaking.

In most cases, a tow to a Repair garage is a way to save money unless you repair yourself where it stands. A $75 tow bill is cheaper than an engine or transmission.

2001 f350 no brakes

have vehicle towed to garage for repair you must have blown a line / wheel cylinder/ caliper or something or jst wore your brakes out period.
most people wont have the right tools to fix those big brake assemblies.
and dont be suprised if the bill is huge

The "Power" sign came on on the dash of my XL7.

In my 01 there was an A/T switch next to the shifter. One position was for road driving, the other for towing or off/road. All it does is change the shift points and the light indicates it is in towing off/road position. It is in the owner's manual.

ESP warning light came on - no other symptoms. Next time car driven and was veering into left turn lane (no significant speed) it felt like there was a flopping flat tire and some lack of steering...

The ESP is the stability system for the car and suggests there might be a broken/damaged spring or anti roll bar or something like that. I would not drive a car with a lack of steering - it is dangerous. I think you need to get a mechanic out to look at the problem. If you're in the AA, RAC or Green Flag I'd call them out to look at the problem. They will tow your car into your local Garage if the problem, is not fixable at the roadside. At least that's what AA do, although I have heard some of the other organisations will just tow you to garage and not try to ascertain the problem.

put key in ignition turn to the on position for ten minutes. dont touch it watch the security light on dash . after 10 minutes it should be off. if it is off turn ignition switch off for 5 secs. then proceed in cranking it. if security light dont turn off. you have bcm problems. it have to be towed in.
