Is it welded at the one end, or is it pinned like a hinge? Or a hook?

Most gas tanks use two straps that are fixed to the vehicle chassis at one end by pin or keylike slot, and bolted at the other. Remove bolts, tank drops down whlie straps remain under tank.

What is the best way to drain my fuel tank on a 1967 karmann ghia see i can replace the fuel tank tube filter

I drained mine by unbolting the entire tank (only 4 bolts on top) taking it out and inverting it for drainage.
BUT, here are two shortcuts that I realized later:
a ) You can get get under the front hood beneath the car (not easy to reach) and unhook the main fuel line from tank to engine.
b) The easiest way is just unhook the fuel supply line from tank to the carb and drain it slowly and best if parked at inclined level for better drainage down the hill. Collect Fuel in a fuel container.

How do you change a fuel filter

All WJ models have two fuel filters, a strainer filter at the bottom of the fuel pump module inside the fuel tank and one exterior filter within the fuel pressure regulator. Both filters are designed for extended service. They do not require normal scheduled maintenance. Filters should only be replaced if a diagnostic procedure indicates to do so.

The combination fuel filter/pressure regulator is located in front of the fuel tank and above the rear axle. It is transversely mounted to a chassis crossmember (left-to-right). The filter/regulator is equipped with 3 fuel line fittings (2 at one end and 1 at the other end). The single fitting facing the left side of the vehicle is the supply line to the fuel rail. The 2 fittings facing the right side of the vehicle are connected to the fuel tank. Of these 2 fittings, the fitting towards the front is used for fuel return to the fuel tank. The fitting towards the rear is a pressure line.

External filter/regulator removal
WARNING: THE FUEL SYSTEM IS UNDER A CONSTANT PRESSURE (EVEN WITH THE ENGINE OFF). BEFORE SERVICING ANY FUEL SYSTEM HOSES, FITTINGS OR LINES, THE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE MUST BE RELEASED.

1. Remove fuel fill cap.
2. Remove fuel pump relay from Power Distribution Center (PDC). For location of relay, refer to label on underside of PDC cover.
3. Start and run engine until it stalls.
4. Attempt restarting engine until it will no longer run.
5. Turn ignition key to OFF position.
6. Disconnect negative battery cable at battery.
7. Raise vehicle.
8. Clean area around 3 filter/regulator fittings.
9. Disconnect fuel supply, fuel return and fuel pressure lines at filter/regulator. Special tools may be required.
10. Remove 2 mounting bolts and remove filter/regulator.

External filter/regulator installation
1. Before installing filter/regulator, be sure all fittings are cleaned of all dirt and contaminants.
2. Be sure o-ring is positioned into fuel return fitting in filter/regulator.
3. Apply a small amount of clean engine oil to o-rings.
4. Position filter/regulator to body and install 2 bolts. Tighten bolts. Refer to Torque Specifications.
5. Connect 3 fittings.
6. Connect negative battery cable to battery.
7. Start engine and check for leaks.

Hope helps (remember rated this).

How do I remove the fuel tank from my x300? I have undone the two straps, wireing, and disconnected the fuel pipe but the tank is still quite rigid and does not want to move, can you help.

After removing all connections and wiring from the tank and the sending unit and depressurize fuel system and drain the fuel tank and most importantly TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY this is what you have to do :
1- Make sure to mark the wires for the sending unit so that you do not have a problem connecting in the correct place. 2- Remove bolts securing spare wheel mounting bracket and remove bracket. 3- Remove tank upper insulation pad. 4- Disconnect fuel pump harness from evaporative loss flange connection 5- Release harness attached to tank retaining straps and reposition harness downward. 6- Disconnect vapor pipe assembly from underbody pipe. 7- Push back collars on quickfit connectors and remove vapor pipe and over-pressure pipe from evaporative loss flange port. 8- Remove bolts securing tank retaining straps. 9- reposition straps upwards for access. 10- Remove strap holding filler housing solenoid block connector to harness and disconnect connector. 11- Disconnect drain tube from aperture seal (small pipe beside big one) 12- Open filler cap and remove filler neck garter spring. 13- Remove filler housing bolts. 14- Displace filler housing from body opening 15- Remove fuel tank. 16- Remove hose from evaporative loss flange and filler neck , ( Bend weld tag upwards to release hose). 17- Remove evaporative loss flange lock ring. 18- Lift flange from tank enough to disconnect fuel pump harness. 19- Remove flange and seal. 20- Inside tank , loosen hose clamps and remove fuel hoses from fuel pump module. 21- Remove fuel pump module and mounting rubber , note position of mounting rubber lugs. 22- Loosen hose clamps and remove two fuel hoses inside tank. 23- Remove tank sending unit. 24- Remove magnetic drain plug and make sure that you clean it well.
That is it your tank is out , and make sure that you mark every thing that you disconnected to install back in its proper place.

Fuel pump removal 96 nissan quest

Replace Fuel Pump for 1997 Nissan Quest

(1) If the fuel tank has more than one third full, you need to get the gasoline out. If it has one third or less full, you can leave it in the tank. However be very careful around the working area. Make sure you have read fire precautions in a general repair book. Take the fuel pump fuse out from the fuse box near the battery. Run starter for a few seconds. This will remove the fuel pressure in the gas lines. Disconnect battery at negative terminal. Jack up the rear of the van.

(2) Remove the fuel tank protector.
19add47.jpg

(3) Disconnect fuel pipes at the front end of the fuel tank. Use short pencils and extra rubber hoses to block disconnected pipes and hoses.
59aa089.jpg There are two pipes connected to the gasoline filler at the side of the van. Disconnect only the smaller one. The larger one is flex enough for the tank to be lowered.

(4) Disconnect the electrical from this connector. Jack the rear end of the fuel tank with a car jack and a piece of 2x4. Put the wood between the jack point and the tank. Then unbolt the two bolts showing in the picture.
128654f.jpg
(5) Lower the jack after the bolts are removed. The rear end of the tank should be lowered.

de57889.jpg

(6) Disconnect fuel lines on top of the fuel pump. Reconnect each short hose back to different pipes as shown in picture to block the pipes.
585888a.jpg
(7) Loose the six mounting bolts on the fuel pump assembly. The bolts should be loosen a little at a time in multiple turns. Also detach the electrical wire holders. After all bolts are removed, carefully take the assembly out of the tank.
dceea20.jpg

(8) Remove the fuel pump from the assembly as shown in picture. Then unplug the electrical wires. Note that two connectors are in different sizes, so that you will not be able to reconnect to a wrong terminal.
1310aad.jpg
(9) Put the new pump and new filter in. Reconnect the electrical wires. If necessary use a pair of pliers to make the connectors tighter. Make sure they are not loose. Reconnect gas inlet to the pressure regulator.
08db176.jpg
(10) Use a new O ring, put back the assembly to the fuel tank. Make sure the float of the fuel level senser is free, and the assembly is at the right orientation (as shown in picture). Screw back the 6 bolts after making sure the O ring is in right place. The bolts should be tightened in turns. Do not over tighten them. Then reconnect the fuel lines and make sure every fastener is tight. Put the electrical wire into holders.
90c2053.jpg
(11) Jack up the tank and put the two mounting bolt in. (see picture in step 4). Make sure they are tightened with specific torque. Reconnect the electrical connector.

(12) Reconnect two fuel lines at the front side of the tank. Refer to the picture in step 2. Reconnect the hose to the gasoline filler. Before you have a try start, double check if all fuel lines are securely connected and tightened.

(13) Start the engine. You need to crank more than a normal start because the lines were empty. The pressure is built up in some time.

(14) If engine starts ok, turn it off. Then check under the van if there is any leakage. If everything is fine put back the tank protector. (picture in step 2).

Brake line behind fuel tank leaking

If the line leaking is plastic then it's not a brake line it's a fuel line. If the truck runs then it is most likely the return fuel line. If you can't get to it without dropping the tank then that's what you'll have to do, but you shouldn't need to remove it completely.
It is best to siphon out as much gas as possible. Before you removing the bolts take 2 pcs. of smooth fence wire or even 12ga. copper wire and make a cradle to support the tank, cut the wire at least 2 ft. longer than what it will take to go from the frame to the drive-shaft.
At a point about 1/3 in from each end of the tank lupe one end of the wire through holes in the frame and twist it a couple of times, then run it under the tank and around the drive shaft and twisting the ends a couple of turns.
After you get all the bolts out of the tank supports if you don't have room to repair the line you can loosen the wires around the drive-shaft and allow the tank to drop down some[this is why you need the wires 2 ft. longer]
After the repairs which will probably be replacing the rubber fuel hose that attaches the line to the tank,[I'd replace both of them] tighten the wires around the drive-shaft and replace the tank bolts. Remember to get all your bolts started before you tighten any,
