this can be caused by defective plug wires or a very lean cylinder condition, what other symtoms do u have? how many miles on the plugs and wires? is the fuel pressure up to spec under a load? when does this most often happen? have u run any trouble code tests?

03 chev silverado vortex motor v8, 6.0 my p0220 code # came up when tested. do i need to replace the throttle position sensor and i need to know where it is...in my repair book said this one is located on...

The TPS or throttle position sensor is located on the throttle body. It is usually on the right side. There are two wires in a weather pack connector that clip to it. Disconnect the wire connector then remove the two screws ( torqs bite type). When you remove the TPS watch that you don't remove or lose the O ring that seals the throttle shaft. If you lose the O ring this will cause a vacumm leak.

I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 4.8 v8 engine and I'm trying to locate the EGR valve. Thanks

The EGR valve is on the passenger side of the engine if you are looking at the front of the motor. There is a hose that goes into the intake behind the throttle body and another hose that goes into the exhaust manifold. It is the unit that has an electrical connector going into it.

You can adjust it by the throttle body. Adjust the kick down cable. It should be on the drivers side of the throttle body

what is the fuel pressure reading, sounds like low fuel pressure, you should have 60 PSI at idle and more when you throttle the engine up about 65 PSI, it should NEVER go down.

Chevy 454 back fire

Ignition timing is set by the computer as long as the distributor pickup point is within reason.

It could be running too lean. One of the TBI injectors may be sticking or not working (wiring or computer problem), or fuel pressure could be low.

you could put the pickup on a cylinder pressure test and see if you have a bad valve causing the engine to pop.
you could have a bad wire or spark plug.
the timming chain could of went off a cog on the timming sprokets causing to pop.
gettin to much gas could cause it to.
