Rear Fog lamp not working on 93 VW Polo

Hi there,

Hoping you can help me out here with my non functioning fog lamp.

Here's the problem

I changed the bulb - still didn't work
I changed the fuse - still didn't work
I thought it was a broken switch as no light would come when I switched the rear fog light on. So I changed that - still didn't work.

Any ideas out there would be gratefully accepted. Could it be the relay? if so, where is it?

All of my other lights work fine.

THis problem is hurting my head now as I have the MOT due on monday!!

Thank you very much!

Thanks for Solution #1. I checked the wiring and it is all OK, no pinches or breaks. I used a multi meter and there appears to be no power coming out of the main headlight switch to the fog light so I believe that is going to be the cause of the problem. Could this be right? However it seems to be a bit late now as my MOT is on Monday and all of the scrappies are closed!!!!

    Next problem!!!

I am now sitting in my car, in the freezing cold perplexed... My Right hand hand drivers side dipped beam has decided to stop working!!! Why the can this be!!!?? I have changed the fus and bulb to no avail. I am now thinking this has got to be the lightswitch, has it not??

Also, for my fog light I was thinking (before the headlight issue came around!) of piggybacking of the 12v constant that goes into the cigarette lighter. Would this work? I know it would bypass the lightswitch and work all the time instead of when my lights are switched on but at least it would pass the MOT that way!! oh well, I seem to have a bigger problem with my headlight now though, don't I!

I would be truly grateful for any advice on this matter.

    Thank you

The best thing to do is check the wiring near the fog light make sure wiring is not cut and wiring not touch metal or being pinched/ Try that / Please rate my response Thank you very much

My air con ,rear wiper and fog lights have stopped working on a vw polo 2.0 hatch 2005

Consult your Car Owner manual to locate where the Fuse Box is located: Check the appropriate fuse(s) for the appliances in your car that are not working - I suspect that the AirCon, RearWiper and Fog lights are sharing the same fuse as it would be extremely unusual to have 3 separates fuses blown at the same time. ps. The Polo usually has some spare fuses in/near the Fuse Box.

Fog lights

hi from uk the fog lghts? i assume front fog lamps ? the head lights have to be on dipped beam then the fogs will also work but in uk this is so as to prevent fogs only being used (blinding oncoming traffic ) if weather conditions req fogs to be used for poor visibility ? then the side/tail and h/lights must also be on like wise the rear fog light/s operate the same way hope this helps and makes perfect sense ?? all above is assuming bulbs have been checked and fuse/relay and power to each lamp ?

Polo 1997

hi there, do you mean you are unable to find the location of the switch for them?, if so when you turn your lights to dip beam you can also pull out the switch towards you, if you have front fog lights as well they will come on at the first click and rear fogs are when its fully out. hope this sorts out ya probs, ade.

Fog lights

A detent is a "stop". The manual is telling you to pull out the switch until it stops. The rear fog lamp on my VW Polo works the same way. It may help you to know that on my VW (1) although the headlamps will come on without the engine on, the fog lamp requires the engine to be running, (2) the headlamp switch must be in the "on" position before you can pull it out to the detent position.
