I did the oil consumption test once VW said  1 to 1-1/2 quarts of oil
every 1200 is the way the motor is designed. I went to the salesman
and he said that there is nothing that we the dealer or the company VW is not willing to do anything for me. So now I have to check my oil
every 1200 miles and pay for the oil that I put. I lease the vehicle.
Is there anything I can do please help going broke buying syntec oil.It
is bad that I can not take my car on vacation without packing a case
of oil. Really mad please help me. Thanks for your help it was helpful

I had the same problem with my wife's 2006 passat turbo. We lost 2.5 quarts in 3000 miles and the warning light came on. They put us on a 1000 mile oil test and I lost 1.8 more quarts of oil. They finally agreed to replace the rings. Service tech told me that the factory rings are defective, they begin to lead after about 25,000.

There is a VW Technical Service Bulletin, #17/05-02 dated 06/16/2005 that covers oil consumption and gives the dealer instructions on evaluating it. Try getting a copy from the dealer.

There is a problem with oil consumption with some model VW's. Following that technical service bulletin is the first step to having VW take care of your problem. If they will not give you a copy let me know, I will e-mail you one. I'm only trying to give you more information that sometimes the dealer will not share with you.

My 2006 2.0 tdi passat keeps going in limp mode and saying emissions workshop. Can anybody help

hi mate, my 55 plate passat did the same before major problems happened. first turbo went then the oil pressure light came on and the car went into limp mode. before its too late for you and a costly bill can you do the following.
check if your car has a recall for the injector problems which vw are replacing under warenty.
second thing the guy who repaired my turbo told me that these cares have a major fault which caused the turbo to go. the fault is the oil pump failure you must adress this issue as you can get a lot of info on the discussion forms.
my car started with the same problem as you have described the pd engines have a design fault with the oil pump and shaft. this is common causing your turbo to go then the car will start showing oil pressure low please stop engine. educate your self via the forms and act quickly befor you end up with massive bills.
i hope this has helped. trust me vw know about this design fault.you need to change your chain driven oil pump to the new gear driven system which vw have modified. all vag cars have the same problems be it audi skoda vw . my car had the same problem as you have said .started off with emissions then turbo failed thats when i started to investigate this problem . the pd engines was designed by some rookie at vw.

Transmission slams hard when down shifting. rattles car. 2007 vw passat. 2.0 turbo automatic

Need more clarification when driving and park. Happen to vw a lot with no solution. Could be electrical ( Tcm + Wiring conector, ECM) ( fluid change fluid+filter add lucid tray oil) or mechanical. Rattle could be engine or evap thing located under or next to air filter. Alternator also. The engine you speak of is know for sludge build up problems by VW. They've even made recalls base on what I've heard. Check oil circulation and how to fix oil circulation problem. Drop the the oil pan and clean filter screen where it sucks in oil. Other things related need to be unclog..

For a 2008 vw Passat, is it normal to burn 2 qrts of oil between changes? 4 cyl 2 0 turbo

VW RECKON that oil usage around 1/2 litre per 500km is acceptable !!!!!!!! yeah right...i suppose it does lubricate the turbo blades....and the exhaust pipe internally....you could use 20/50 instead of 5/40 that would cut it down, but not do much good to the engines long life..... VW reckon about 150,000m before rebuild.

is there a whistle from the turbo when accelerating if so the baering could be on the way out in the turbo.or blue smoke when accelerating could also be a sign.a blocked air filter would also cause it to **** oil through to the compression hose.

How much oil is required when changing the oil and filter in a 1998 VW passat sedan 1.8L turbo? I've also heard that there is a oil slugde problem with those engines, are there any additives or solutions...

1998 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT 1.8L 4-cyl Engine Code AEB/AWM Turbo
Models with 1.8L Engine codes AEB, ATW, AUG, AWM only
use engine oil that is formulated to meet
Volkswagen oil standard VW 502.00
(with viscosity of SAE 5W-40, 5W-30 or 0W-40).

CAPACITIES: Engine, with filter..........3.5 liter To prevent overfilling during oil changes, add 0.5 liter
(0.5 quart) less than capacity shown, start engine, let run
until engine operating temperature is approx. 60 °C (140 °F)
, switch engine off, wait 3 minutes, check dipstick,
fill to full mark as indicated on dipstick (may be more or
less than 0.5 liter (0.5 quart) depending on model).

As for the sludge question, I add Marvel Mystery Oil around 600 miles before i do my oil change. This will clean out the oil pick up screen and oil journals through out the engine, I do this on every oil change and i have over 356,000 miles on my engine. Oil and filter changed every 3,000 miles intervals. Good luck and hope this helps.

2003 VW Passat "Oil Press, Turn Off Engine" and "STOP" Light

I would check the oil pressure sensor and the oil pump itself. You can take the sensor out and use a mechanical gauge to check the oil pressure. If the oil pressure is within specs, you need a new sensor, if not, you need a new pump.

2005 Passat TDI wagon sucking oil

what would a CV joint have to do with oil consumption? the answer ZERO, if the VC gasket was leaking that bad you would have a large puddle of oil under the engine every time you parked it for more than a few minutes, so doubt that is the problem, has the dealer run a clyinder leak down test to determine if the piston rings are sealing properly? that is the next step, sure sounds like they don't know what they are doing and they are guessing, make them do it for free, they changed out the turbo for no reason it seems, u are out $1800! and no change in oil consumption, make them do there job right or get ahold of the dept of consumer affairs for your state and open a case, that will light a fire under there ****.

2003 VW Passat Malfunction Indicator Lamp on

I have a 2003 Passat GLX V6 and i havent been experiencing this issue, however from my experience with VW, the early 2000 models of the passat that have a 1.8T 4 cylinder engine have a major issue with what has been deemed "oil sludge" you have to be careful with this engine oil wise and make sure to get the oil changed every 3,500 - 4,500 miles and make sure you get the full synthetic oils for it and the proper filters :-) the turbo that is on this model heats up the oil to extreme temperatures and if not serviced regularly you will have problems.... i hope this helps! i would have someone check it again for this issue... hopefully you get to it before it becomes costly!
