Question about 2002 Chevrolet S-10

2002 4x4 Has little power.

The more I try to rev it up the more it bogs down, I can only go about 30 miles/hour. But has the same problem sitting in the shop idle is fine. Have had some problem with the rotor and cap but has been replaced. Wires are in order. Will show a random misfire code.The power problem just started yesterday.

    I am sure you are right, how do I check to see if it is restricted,if so can it be unplugged? Ex pipe is not very straight, could I run a fish up the pipe?

    I cut the cat converter out and I still have the same problem, but there is another smaller can in front of the converter round not flat could this be the plugged up problem. What is this part. Is it a 2 stage cat. Thanks

    Thanks guys the front cat was plugged busted out the pack and the power is back sound good with no exhaust, but the wife says no. Thanks again. G

Check for a restricted converter. If your vehicle has high mileage and the converter is OE it can caused a lack of power. Misfire problems can lead to converter problems.

    You need to disconnect the exhaust in front of the converter and see if you regain the power. Most converter's have a screen, if you put a wire though you will hit the screen. The only legal way to fix it is to install a new one.

Sounds like a transmission issue. Was the engine overheating? If you didnt have any coolant and it overheated you would get a similar response from your vehicle. I say check your transmission fluid and coolant. With any luck you may not have done permanent damage to it. The reason your fluid had so many bubbles, is because it was boiling. How far did you drive after you bogged down? If it was very shortly or immediately after there is a decent chance you wont have any major repairs. Baring a bad transmission before this incident. Hope this is helpful.

I have a 91 F-350 That bogs down at 45 mile per hour and real bad if your pulling a trailer

the culprit could be your fuel filter or the vacuum advance on your distributor.i recomend to replace filter and also do a manuel check of vacuum advance on distributor.

next time it happens try spraying water in mist form around the throttle body if it bogs, replace the throttle body gasket. if it doesn't bog you may have a bad wire wait until dark start the vehicle have someone feed the fuel very slowly and watch for arching from a wire it will be easy to see when it is dark, replace that wire.

If the check engine light is on,have it scanned for trouble codes.Diagnose and repair any codes.I have a car very very similar to yours with 188k miles,great car,runs drives great,good mileage,heat,a/c paint,everything,just no power.2.0 ltr sohc,,non turbo,they just weren't very powerful in those days.Mine has new timing belts too,and no diff in the performance before or after.Maybe a true cold air intake might help power a little.Also have the catalytic convertor checked for adequate flow as over the years they can restrict flow a little at a time and dwindle power output.
