Question about 2008 Suzuki SX4

1 Answer

At highway speeds, however, the engine is noisy.

Road and engine noise are insufficiently soundproofed.
First of all when I touch 2500 rpm until 3000, the noise is most annoying with a low frequency humm. I don't know what to do for my new SX4 1,5 GLX winter edition - bought in Dec.2008 Romania, to solve this engine noise issue.

Very dificult to diagnose from your info. Could be numerous problems i.e drive belts, pulleys, alternator, power steerng pump, excessive valve clearance, gearbox whine or the most likely culprit, TYRE NOISE. I suggest take the vehicle to a respectable repair shop just for a diagnose. Get a second or third opinion, although it is no charge most of the time if it only requires a test drive (in South Africa) and take it from there!

Phillip

What would cause my radiator fan to run really loud but my escape is not overheating

if it has a viscous fan hub ( fan clutch) then the fan will hook up when the radiator temp reaches around 95 degrees C
this coupling increases the fan speed to close to engine rpms and there will be fan noise as it sucks air through the radiator
it prevents overheating by moving extra air through the radiator when there is insufficient road speed to do the job
it is most noticeable when in slow traffic , sitting at lights or with engine rpms high and under load but not noticeable at highway speeds

What would cause excessive road noise on a

Sounds like the tread design of the tires..some tread can make a lot of road noise on blacktop and cement...try this, find some newer blacktop and run it at road speed..note noise and the try it on older blactop or cement highway..it changes, it is the treat design..this is very common on truck tires and sometimes passenger car tires...if you live in a snowy area..do the test on a snowy road with no salt etc.that too will quiet noisy tire tread also ..good luck...

I get a humming /buzzing sound that increase with speed

check tyre pressures are even. tyre tread pattern will cause noise that increase with noise (off road pattern are noisy while highway pattern will be quite) Have the wheel bearings check for condition.

78 mark V 460 : humming noise at acceleration and between a range of rpm

Exhaust touching under somewhere when engine torque increased, Egr tube, or anti-backfire valve at rear of engine etc. Other possibilities, Motor mount (especially opposite side) , transmission mount. Have you tried brake torque to see how much engine shifts? Once your up to higher speeds, less torque required to push that Big thing down the road. ha ha.
What type of noise is it, if you can describe? Have U-joints been checked?

Engine stuttering

have you replaced your O2 censor yet? or changed your air filter lately. I know our avenger is pretty picky we had a dirty air filter once and it seemed like the O2 censor went out because it kept trying to shut off when the idle was lower. a new air filter did a bit for it then we got a censor reader that you plug into the brain box of the car or the cigarette lighter and it told us the O2 was out and our car was doing the low idle thing. after we fixed it no problems.

Down shifting at high rpm's

Sorry there is no adjustment screw to this. Everthing is controled by the ECU now. There are after market piggy back system you can buy to keep the transmission locked up longer but that's expensive. There are many good speed shops out there that can reprogram you ECU to how you'ld like it to perform for what you use it for. Even some transmission shop can do that for you with a Pro link. Good luck

Stick shift # Automatic RPM

That is normal,If you do the same speed in 4th gear the rpm's will almost double.

The rpm's will repond faster in a manual than an automatic.

In a manual the engine supplies the power required directly to the gear that you have selected thus the engine rpm's will increase or decrease as needed.
