Well you need to start looking for screws and little covers on the trim panel / then and one should be around the handle/ then youpull form the bottom and work the same on the sides than pull from the bottom and pull it up and out as you take the trim off then disconnect the wire connector and you can see where everything is and remove the vapor barrier/ Please rate my response thank you very much

Can you tell me how to take the inside door panel offside front on my vw golf p97?

There are a series of 2.5 mm allen head screws around the perimeter of the panel, remove those with an allen wrench. Then pry the cover by the pull handle off(by the window switch) and there are 2 philips head screws. Remove those and the panel will come loose. Disconnect any connectors for the mirror switch and it's off.

Rear doors will not close just keep bouncing open

Before you take the inner door panel apart try to spray an oil like WD40 into the door latch mechanism & Open & close many times. The return spring for the latch has stuck and it needs some waking up. Getting then inner panel off does not help that much in access.

97 Passat left front door won't open from outside - will open from inside if lock knob is pulled forcefully. I have new outside handle (not yet installed). All locks open properly with key. I have sought...

Heat will not help and can damage the door lock mechanism further.
You can try lubing the door lock, but I do not thing it will help. I think there may be something wrong with the mechanism, or you will get the same problem from outside and inside.
If the door is opening from the inside , then the door lock mechanism My still be working. On VW the outer handle is connected to the lock by a steel wire, or by a metal shaft.
To access the door lock you need to remove the internal door panel. The door panel is held by hidden screws located on handles and by a set of clips located behind the panel near to the panel border.
I have service manual for several VW models, I will see if I can find the manual for 1995-1997 Passat and I will eventually send the diagrams to undo the door and access the lock.

How to change drivers door latch on vw golf sdi 1999 as drivers door opens when driving

Have you tried using WD-40 to help the lock from sticking you may not need replace it.
However if you feel it's necessary need to remove the inside door panel with the window up remove the two bars that are you inner lock and door handle levers a plastic clip holds them into place on the lock itself .a drop light is very helpful once the levers are disconnected remove the outer screws on the door itself the lock should fall off from the inside at this point ...install new lock and reinstall rods { levers} to the lock itself test before reinstalling door panel then secure when confident it works properly
