Question about 1985 Ford F 250

1 Answer

1985 ford deisel xlt - wont start (turn over)

The batteries are fully charged, the light all come on and glow plugs seem to be doing what they should. I cant get it to turn over. It does not make any noise at the starter. There is a small click in some device near the left fender wall.

Does anyone know what tests i can run to see if it's the starter, batteries, ground cable, etc. etc.?

Any advice would be very helpful. Thank you!

I just put new ones in. The relay I believe is the glow plug relay. At least that's what nappa said. The soliniod is new but I dont know if that's the starter soliniod. Could wiring issue also make the soliniod there act like it's bad?

What sort of test can i do to determine the source of the issue. The darn thing just wont turn over.

    Thank very much!

Sounds like a bad starter selinoid that would be the click that you hear in the front under the hood on your truck the only other thing it could be is a bad relay under the hood in about the same area, Hope this helps you out

The glow plug light is telling you there is a problem with the glow plug circuit. There is a controller and the glow plugs themselves can fail. In your case, I suspect the controller.

My 2006 xlt deisel 6.o engine, cranks real fast umumummumumumummmmmmmmmm but it does not seem to be firing ccertainly won't start.

Check all of your glow plug wires, if they are all on it may be your glow plugs or your fuel pump, glow plugs are cheap and dont cost much and are easy to replace. fuel pumps are not cheap and are very complicated to replace. I hope this information helped. Be careful and drive safe!

Try replaceing the solinoid. Its under the hood on the passenger side. You will see the sarter wires and the battery wires connected to it. First disconnect the negative side of the battery. Then replace the solinoid.

glow plugs may be bad, when starting try turning switch on several times, each time you do,wait for the wait to start light goes off, if it starts like that, then your glow plugs need replacement. you can start it with either spray, but when you do that the motor gets addicted to the bottle,so to speak, then you'll really need to replace the glow plugs if you keep either starting it.when using either spray it into the air induction, use very little either,if you can't find the either, you can use regular starting fluid, but either one you choose,it takes just a quick spray to start. thank you for choosing

My 1994 turbo diesel wont turn over ow do i fix it i turn the ignition on and i hear the relay for the glow plugs ticking but as i continue to turn it over i get a few short revs than the battery dies...

You may have just one battery operating.A deisel requires alot to turn it over due to the high amount of compression. I would suggest haveing both batteries tested, disconnected to determine if this is the problem.

Wont start but cranks

I dont know if you have tried this, but first change the glow plugs, if that doesnt work or you have tried that, then clean off the terminal where the glow plug cables attach to by the battery. Hope this helps
