Battery light flickers

I've noticed that when I start the car the battery light comes on and the headlights flicker. I had a new battery install November of 2007. I got several different answers of what the problem could be. One person suggested that the "cells" in the battery could need cleaning or the battery replaced. Another suggested that the alternator could need replaced.

I would have the charging system tested. If the battery test bad check your warranty, many major brands have a free replacement period. The red battery light coming on when the engine is running often means the alternator is not putting out enough volts.

Periodic battery light flickers on my 2003 town car.if you just tap on brake or flicker headlights .is there a separate diode that could cause this?

You have a defective alternator, that what is most likely causing the flickering light. A voltage output test will not reveal this.

How do I get the low beams to run automatically whenever driving instead of flickering?

if you did it yourself and did not use factory lights or ballast then it could be a voltage detection problem. If you did use factory parts then the headlight switch may have failed by coincidence. also check connections at HL plugs and or switch. ???????????

Lights flicker

When my headlights started to flicker at night, I soon found out it was the battery. It died one night sitting in a friend's driveway with the radio and headlights on. My battery was over 5 years old at the time, and the tow truck driver said I was lucky to have it work that long. I purchased a new battery and the lights no longer flicker at night. Just a suggestion. Hope this helps you.

You most likely have a bad alternator that is not charging the battery properly. Have the battery charged fully and replace the alternator. This should fix your problem.
