Angle Torque settings head bolts

1998 Renault Megane 1.6 RT angle torque settings of cylinder head bolts, alot of confusing information at the moment, the settings need to be bang on or the head is history.

Use new bolts, tighten in the following stages 1. 20Nm 2. 100Nm 3. wait 3 mins 4. slacken bolts 1&2 retighten to 20Nm +110 degrees 5. carry out stage 4 for bolts 3,4,5 & 6 then bolts 7,8,9 &10 Sequence, 8 4 1 5 9 7 3 2 6 10 Bolts 9 & 10 are flywheel side of the engine.

Please can anyone help need torque setting's for my cylinder head on my clio 1.4 16v 2004 & order too tighten down


they are stretch bolts and can only be used once. If you try re-using the old bolts they are likely to break or fail to apply enough pressure smile.gif Torques and the order are listed here.

you could possibly get the tensions by going google and typing in--- head tension s for renault megane 2.0 l engine
torque settings in ft/lbs or newton meters is a by gone thing as the better method of stretching the bolts is to do it by angles
by using a torque wrench the bolt stretch ( tension) has variables like bolt thread finish, thread lubrication, bolts bottoming out from gunk/oil in the hole , uncalibrated tension wrenches , all of which means that not all head studs are pulled down to the correct stretch
By using angles , the head tension becomes uniform

If yours is an Xu series engine, you need to use a torque wrench and an angle dial wrench. Tightening is in 3 stages.
  • Stage 1: Tighten up to 60Nm (44 lb/ft) then fully loosen
  • Stage 2: Tighten up to 20Nm (15lb/ft) change to angle dial wrench
  • Stage 3: Angle tighten to 300 deg.
To avoid confusion, do stage 3 in 3 steps, tighten 100 deg each round and repeating the cycle until 3 rounds.

Can't find the torque head bolt pattern for a 1996 gmc sierra 5.7 vortex


The "pattern" for ANY cylinder head is pretty much the same...start with the bolts in the center of the head and work your way out to both ends.
Torquing the cylinder head on your 5.7L Vortec engine to manufacturer specifications requires the use of a "torque angle" gauge, as well as a traditional torque meter.

The torque specifications are as follows:

> Step 1: All bolts: 22 Ft Lbs (30 Nm.)
> Step 2: Short bolts: Additional 55 degrees; Medium bolts: Additional 65 degrees; Long bolts: Additional 75 degrees

Cylinder head torque settings for 1995 hyundai accent 1.5


According to my haynes manual for G-S reg, 1989-1998 it goes as follows,
Stage 1:- Tighten all bolts by hand until bolt heads just contact cyl. head.
Stage 2:-Tighten all bolts to 40Nm or 30lb ft.
Stage 3:-Angle tighten all bolts a further 60 degrees.
Stage 4:-Angle tighten all bolts again a further 60 degrees.
Stage 5:- M12 x 140mm bolts ONLY angle tighten a further 20 degrees.

  • Cylinder head by aligning it with the dowel pins
  • New cylinder head bolts coated with a sealant (such as GM 1052080). Torque the bolts in the proper sequence (1-8) to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm). Using a torque angle meter turn the bolts 90 degrees in the proper sequence.
  • Left side exhaust manifold. Torque the bolts to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
  • Spark plugs. Torque the plugs 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).


  • Right side rear cylinder head:

  • Right side exhaust manifold. Torque the bolts to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).

  • Exhaust crossover pipe. Torque the fastener to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

  • Lower intake manifold. Torque the bolts to 115 inch lbs. (13 Nm).

    Preseating the gasket
    Tighten all the bolts to 2 daN.m, then angle tighten to 90°
    Wait 3 minutes settling time.
    Tightening the cylinder head:
    The cylinder head is tightened in stages, applying
    the following procedure successively to
    bolts 1-2 then 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-10.
    - Slacken bolts 1-2 until they are completely free.
    - Tighten bolts 1-2 to 2 daN.m, then angle tighten to 200°.
    Repeat the slackening and re-tightening operation
    for bolts 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-10.
