Timing belt has broke by the sound of it,if not a valve siezed in the valve guide .remedy recycle it and turn it into 3 small cars and save the planet

Got 97f 150 with 4 6 titon.engine had main cam shaft bolt break on passerger side what could cause that

The bolt possibly came loose and backed out a bit causing the cam gear to become loose and shear it off. Is there any signs of metal wear on the gear indicating it may have come loose causing the bolt to shear?

4.3 vortec engines

If you done a tune up and the engine still is not running right. Before you go and replace alot of sensors and computers, pull the distributor out and check the drive gear on the bottom. if it worn even a little replace it. alittle wear will cause an engine to shake. i've worked on them were th engine was spittin and sputterin. the gear was chew about half way thru. replaced it and it purred like a kitten. to do the job you need to
1 pull the wires on one side of the cap and mark them
2 pull the cap
3 pay close attension to where the rotor button is pointing, mark the direction if possible
4 remove the 10 mm bolt that holds the distributor in place
5 pull the distrubutor up and out
6 check the gear. if there is no wear replace in reverse order
7 to remove the gear you need a punch pin, knock the shear pin out of the hole pull off gear and replace with new one. replace shear pin.
8 reassemble in reverse order.

kia is bad for harmonic balancers , i had to replace my sheer pin and bolt in mine. poor design. not mechanics fault. be easy accelerating , keep rpm down

How do i change ignition switch on my 19890 ford ranger xl 4x4 2.9L V6

Rotate the lock cylinder to the lock position. On tilt columns, remove upper extension shround by squeezing at 6 and 10 o'clock and popping free of the retainer plate at 3 o'clock.

Remove 2 shroud halves by removing the screws. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch. Drill out the 2 break-off bolt heads that hold the switch to the lock cylinder using a 1/8" drill bit.

Remove bolts (may have to use a screw extractor). Disengage ignition switch from actuator pin and remove switch.

To Install:
Rotate the key to the run position. Install switch by aligning holes on switch base with hole in the cylinder housing. You may have to move it a little to get the actuator pin to line up.

Install new break-off bolts untill the heads shear off. Connect electrical connector to switch.Then reverse the removal procedure to complete.

Why isnt my rotor button turning

Possibly a sheared roll pin on the distributor or the gear is striped. Take the Distributor cap off with wires attached if there is room to move it out of the way. There should be a bolt at the bottom with a bracket, remove the bolt and bracket and remove the distributor, check the roll pin and gear to make srure there in proper condition. Both ends of the roll pin can be there but still sheared. Check also but hold the rotor button and turning the gear to make sure that the shaft is not broken. Gear is at the bottom.

Key is stuck in broken ignition of 1994 Honda accord EX .How do i remove broken ignition and replace a new one .Thanks

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION 1994-95 Accord NOTE: Do not attempt to remove the ignition switch assembly if you do not have replacement bolts available. These special bolts have break-away heads which shear off when tightened. This is an "anti-theft'' measure used to prevent easy removal of the bolts. Fig. 2: Shear bolts must be used for reinstallation 86806113.gif
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and disable the SRS system.
  2. Remove the dashboard lower cover/knee bolster.
  3. Remove the steering column covers.
  4. Unplug the ignition switch connector.
  5. Remove the two nuts and two bolts securing the steering column, carefully lower the column assembly.
  6. Use a center punch to mark each of the two shear bolt heads securing the ignition switch assembly to the steering column. Use a 3?16 in. (5mm) drill bit to drill off the heads. Take care not to damage the switch when drilling.
  7. Remove the bolts. Remove the clamp and remove the ignition switch assembly.
  8. Remove the three screws securing the switch and remove the switch. To install:
  9. Make certain the recess of the switch aligns with the tab of the lock housing. Insert the switch and install the retaining screws.
  10. Position the switch assembly on the steering column. Install the new shear bolts; tighten them finger-tight.
  11. Use a wrench or socket of the correct size. Tighten the shear bolts until the heads break off.
  12. Raise the column and install the nuts/bolts. Tighten the nuts to 10 ft. lbs. (13 Nm) and the bolts to 16 ft. lbs. 22 Nm).
  13. Connect the ignition switch wiring harness.
  14. Install the column covers.
  15. Install the dashboard lower cover/knee bolster.

Swapped a 1999 420A engine into a 1995 eclipse (also a 420A) and we have no spark. We started by checking the cam sensor and it is working properly it is upside down from the 95 but the ASD relay is...

first the cam sensor shouldn't be upside down from the 95. they both should be with the plug facing down. they 95 CAS has a different plug than the 99 CAS.
the 95 has round pins and the 99 has flat pins.

also the 95-96 relays are opposite the 97-99

besides that it could be the ecu. i also have heard of the locating pin on the intake cam shearing off, allowing the gear to turn with the timing belt without the actual camshaft spinning.

I have a 1999 ram 2500 with a 360 gas engine 70,000 miles. Driving down road quit. Spark at coil none at plugs, pulled dist cap rotor NOT turning when we rolled engine over with starter. Pulled distributor...

Something has sheared. Is there a pin on the distributor drive gear, are the gears on the cam and dist. shaft perfect / no flat spots at all, is there a keyway or key on the crank or cam gears that has sheared? Must be a weak point that was slipping somewhere.

There appears to be a shim or pin surrounding the connecting bolts for the brake pad assembly and I can't get it off and I need to know if it is a pin to push out, or a bolt that maybe has sheared off?

It's a pin, use a punch or a screw driver and hammer to knock it out. It's two pieces of metal held together by a rubber center. There are two of them on each caliper. Ask an auto parts store to show you a caliper pin.
