Transmission will not engage 2003 Hundai Accent automatic

I just changed the tranny fluid. Now the transmission will not engage in any gear. I thought maybe I added too much fluid (since registered high on the dip stick) so I drained it down to normal levels. Still no go!

Before you much further, be sure to start the engine and shift thru the gears, allowing a few seconds in every gear. If you drained it well, you will need to get fluid flowing back through the valve body, etc. before it will engage. Did you replace the trans. filter??? Keep letting it run thru the gears while sitting still, and rechecking the stick until it takes all the fluid in and you can get an accurate reading. Good luck, post a comment if this gives you no results. I'll be around today. Later, TT

Tatter Todd quickly came to the rescue. I followed his guidance of shifting through all gears, circulating and spreading the tranny fluid, being patient, and it worked. I ended up having to add more fluid which fixed the problem.

Thanks!

Reverse gear doesnt engage

I would try draining the fluid and changing the filter and fluid (with the oem spec fluid) this will give your tranny a lil more pressure to help engage the reverse , hopefully the filter is just plugged or gummy thus blocking fluid passage, its the easiest fix b4 going to the expensive tranny shop$$$ (they may also be able to adjust the pressure applied to the reverse bands, but ithey almost always seem to want to sell u a new transmission first so beware, try a few different shops to see if they can adjust the pressure, if the filter change doesnt help

'03 accent - reverse not engaging- drive wont shift above 30 mph -fluid is fine, battery is fine, brake/stop switch seems ok. cycled tranny thru gears &rechecked fluids & all ok -O/D lock switch...

Seems like your transmission has failed. Either some syncros or bearings are worn out. Its sounds like its time to either have it rebuilt or replaced.

There is no transmission fluid to check, only gear lube, which is supposed to last the life of the vehicel, that is unless hyundai does it differently

Check transmission fluid level. Sounds like your fluid is really low. If you have a lot of K the tranny oil and filter should be changed.

Slow acceleration and jerking when put in drive or reverse

Just wondering if you had checked your trans fluid?
If it's at the right level I might go back to the place that did the tranny work and have a chat with them,
If your fluid is low you have to get it at the dealer, I think it is call sp5, I'll go check the bottle I have.
