Why does rain/humidity causes starting problem w/1997 Chevy Cheyenne, 6 cyl, 1500 series

Posting this for hubby who is at work. Ongoing problem, have taken it to 3 different mechanics, but not to a dealership. This is a Chevy Cheyenne, 1500 Series, 6 cyl. Runs fine once it starts, can crank and turn off all day long. But if there is ANY humidity or rain, and truck goes for more than 10 hours (overnight), it won't start. Then have to put a heater under it for a couple of hours to dry it out, before it will start again. If it's cranked around 11 pm, it will usually start in the morning, unless there's a full on rain storm/humidity. Live at the beach so humid is common here, Last mechanic put it on their computer, and still couldn't figure out what was causing this. he kept it 6 working days, and was as frustrated as the others. He thinks it's something to do with the ignition wires being exposed, and spent more time on it than anyone else. The others thought they had fixed it. He says flat out he can't figure it out. Said to take it to the dealership, they knew things they didn't release to others about situations like this. Does anyone have any ideas as to why or how to fix? Things that have been replaced in the last year: tune up, plugs and wires, distributor cap, ignition coil, fuel pump. Hubby is really crazy over this. Loves this truck. Runs FINE except for this.

Can a 94 chevy cheyenne transmission interchange with a 97 chevy silverado tranmission

Will it physically fit? yes. Will it be a direct replacement any everything hook right up and plug right in? If we are talking about an automatic then no. 1994's wiring was completely different than the 1997. Can it be made to work? possible, but I believe it would be more trouble trying to make it work than if the correct transmission were located and installed. If it is a cost issue where he has a good trans out of a 1994 he might see if a salvage yard will do some partial trading for the correct trans.

Why does rain/humidity causes starting problem w/1996 Chevy Cheyenne, 6 cyl, 1500 series,

I don't know what the mechanics did or did not do, so some of this may be a repeat.
Electricity takes the shortest route to ground. So any moisture can act as a conduit.
In addition to what you listed, the ignition system also includes the pickup coil and module inside the distributor, the rotor that provides a link thru the dist cap, the wiring and connectors in the harness on the engine, various relays and other components.
I would make sure the dist rotor is new, then try to duplicate the event.
Take a spray bottle like Windex and spray the area around the distributor first with regular water, then try to start the truck. If that does not cause the effect, try a garden hose and gently spray the rest of the engine compartment, but don't get any water inside the air cleaner or the intake.
Once you get it to not start, you need to trace the ignition system to find out where the short to ground is.
It could even be in the harness for the fuel injectors.

1995 chevy p/u with 4.3 engine 1500 series.

code 12 is always present in gm motor products. it simply means no tach signal because engine is not running. i would go with the simple first and clean the throttle body real good . that takes care of 99% of idle problems.

1997 Nissan Pickup Won't Start in very High Humidity

Sounds like there may be water or condensation entering your distributor cap. Cheap fix and might be obvious if you inspect its inside.. look for corrosion or moisture.

1994 chevy cheyenne with small 6 cyl. want a 350 carb

As far as fitting in the truck, no problem. Yes you will need a new computer. Your best bet would be to find a salvage truck with a 350, get the engine & the computer from the same vehicle. Most of the sensors are the same although, best case scenario is to get a complete assembly out of a salvage vehicle, including all the sensors. Motor mounts are slightly different, but you can pick those up at a parts store.

If you use a motor with a carb, you won't be able to hook up all the necessary sensors and this will cause your Check Engine light to come on at the very least, and possibly interfere with some or all of your gauges. (Remember, everything is tied together...including the gauges)

Hope this helps.
