I am checking online for this problem which seems to be quite popular. I will remove and clean the trottle body and components. I will also clean the MAP. Please tell me if P0171 is the upstream O2 sensor and if P0174 is the downstream O2 sensor. I have erased these codes but they keep coming back. Thanks

Bank one is toward the front of the vehicle. Sounds like the heated oxygen sensors have gone bad. The Oxygen Sensors are located in the exhaust pipe and require a special socket to remove and replace.

This is usually an oxygen sensor, replace the O2 sensor located above the catalytic converter before replacing the evaporator purge canister.

Your sensors are reading correctly so leave them alone. What you have is a fuel delivery issue. Your MAF sensor is telling your engine to lean your fuel mixture. You need to remove and clean or replace (is better) the MAF. But first replace your PVC valve and clean your ERG valve.

P0171 system too lean bank 1
P0174 system too lean bank 2
links to information on the codes
it means that the O2 sensors in your vehicle detected a lean condition in their respective banks. this could be caused by a dirty MAF (mass air flow) sensor or a vacuum leak downstream from the MAF sensor
sometimes you can clean the MAF with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner but be sure to take it off the vehicle first. be careful not to damage the MAF while spraying the cleaner, and allow it to dry completely before installing it on the vehicle.

I have a van that had a similar problem. Not sure if the rodeo has O rings. That was my problem.
System Too Lean (Bank 2)
Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 2 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust.
Note: This DTC is very similar to P0171, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.

Thanks.
