Hi Sharon, I'm glad to help. Your 2000 year doesn't have a motor for the temp door. It operated by a cable running from the control head to the temp door and you work it manually. If you can't control the temperature from hot to cold, sometimes the cable come off or breaks. Here how you can see the cable to see if its working. Remove the radio and right behind it you will see the cable attached to the door, while watching it move the temp lever from hot to cold and watch it. If it is moving then its most likely out of ajustment. If it is not moving, then you'll need a new cable. Just in case it is moving, I'm attaching the instruction on how to adjust it below. TEMPERATURE CONTROL CABLE
Any time the heater-A/C control or the temperature control cable are removed and/or replaced, the following procedure must be performed.
The temperature control cable housing and core must be installed at both the heater-A/C control and the heater-A/C housing ends, and the heater-A/C control must be installed in the instrument panel. See Heater-A/C Control and Temperature Control Cable in the Removal and Installation section of this group for the procedures.
Rotate the temperature control knob on the heater-A/C control so that the knob pointer is in the 12 o'clock position.
Pull the temperature control knob straight out from the heater-A/C control base until the perimeter of the knob (not the knob pointer) protrudes about 6 millimeters (0.25 inch) from the face of the control base.
Rotate the temperature control knob to the 1 o'clock position. Push in on the knob slightly and continue rotating the knob to its full clockwise stop. The knob pointer should be aimed at a position about 8 millimeters (0.315 inch) beyond the end of the graduated red strobe temperature control graphic on the face of the heater-A/C control base. If the knob is not pointed to the correct position, go back to Step 2 and repeat the adjustment procedure.
Rotate the temperature control knob counterclockwise until the knob pointer is in the 12 o'clock position again.
Push the temperature control knob straight in towards the heater-A/C control base until the perimeter of the knob (not the knob pointer) is flush with the face of the heater-A/C control base.
Rotate the knob to its full clockwise stop again. The knob pointer should be aimed at the end of the graduated red strobe temperature control graphic on the face of the heater-A/C control base. If OK, go to Step 8. If not OK, go back to Step 2.
Rotate the knob to its full counterclockwise stop and release the knob. If the knob springs back from the counterclockwise stop, the self-adjuster clip that secures the temperature control cable to the blend-air door lever is improperly installed. See Temperature Control Cable in the Removal and Installation section of this group for the procedures. If the knob does not spring back, the temperature control cable adjustment is complete.
Check the connection at the heater blower motor resistor.Wiggle or pull connector off and look for a melted pigtail these get very hot and usally are the cause of fan motor problems.Its located on passenger side of heat duct mounted with 2 screws.
you heater fan switch is most likely bad. that whole panel will need replacement just to get the fan switch. been there,with all the trouble to get it out,suggest you replace new, not used. hope this helps, and i just had another thought on the subject while i'm here i might has well try another solution. has anyone spilled coffee or a soft drink,even a couple drips will seep down into that switch. i've cleaned them before and had a few sucesses.you'll need an electrical component spray cleaner. try spraying it around that fan switch,let it dry,then try fan switch again. sometimes it does work thank you for choosing fixya.com
I would expect this is more to do with a low coolant level than an electrical issue. If your coolant is low when you turn off the headlights your engine revs will increase slightly increasing the pressure in your coolant system and pushing fluid into your heater core.
Check your coolant reservior when your car is cold (first thing in the morning), it should be at max cold. If it is lower than this you may not have warm coolant in your heater core.
If this is the case...then where did your coolant go?
Most likely the thermostat/temp housing is leaking...replaced both on my two 2001 sebrings...common issue..~$150 for parts and a little awkward to install but fairly easy fix.
probably the blend door not opening fully. Do you hear a clicking under the dash by passenger's feet? If not, try calibrating the system:
Place the ignition switch to the OFF position.
With the Mode knob in the PANEL position, press and hold the AC button for 5 seconds.
Rotate the Mode knob fully counterclockwise.
Rotate the Mode knob fully clockwise.
Rotate the Mode knob fully counterclockwise.
Release the AC button.
Wait 40 seconds for the HVAC control module to self-calibrate.
Start the vehicle.
If this doesn't work, your actuator may have failed. Look under the dash to see if any of the actuators on the heater box are trying to turn when you change the temperature setting. Unfortunately, I cannot find aftermarket parts for your heater, so if the door isn't working you may need to go to the pontiac dealer. Let me know if you have questions.
that year / series of GM sonoma and s-10 where famous for having clogged heater cores - is temp of hoses going in and out the same ? if not try to flush out ther core, if they are, ck to see if the hot water valve is woking, and finally operation of the doors inside the heater box itself
