My 1996 4x4 had the same problem. It was my fuel pressure regulator. $800 later...from the dealer and it starts just fine. I suggest that you pay a dealer to just scan it. That is how mine was found.

I hope this helps.

The only matter there should be in the throttle body is air. The throttle body in no way has anything other than "nothing" in it. The liquid you see could be the gasoline you threw into the throttle body.

Getting back to your problem. Do NOT have someone looking down the throttle body while you are trying to start the engine. That person may receive a haircut he will never forget! Get the battery charged. Try to start the engine because even though you think you put too much gas in the throttle body, it may start.

The tricky part. If the engine starts and runs for a few seconds, then you are having a problem with fuel delivery and that is the fuel pump most of the time but not always.. If it does not start at all, try one more time to pour gasoline into the throttle body, hold your foot about 1/2 way down on the pedal and then try again to start it. If it still doesn't start, it's time to check for spark.

Car not getting any fuel

Check the Inertia switch which cuts off the power to the pump. Depending on the Model, the switch is either behind the front floor kick panels or on the side of the trunk.
The part has a reset button so no new parts are needed. Sometimes you can borrow a pressure tester from a major Autoparts place and test whether you have pressure at the test port on the injector rail. Remember to turn the Ignition key to on.
If your vehicle is around a 1984 vintage, the injectors were installed in a carburetor shell. You could splash a little gas around the injectors to prime the engine. But a little starting fluid would work for all types of injected engines.
Since the electric injectors depend on pressurized fuel from the pump, fuel flow through the fuel lines is not dependent on a Vacuum draw used in a Mechanical pump. Point is the pressure on an electric fuel system will be available within seconds of turning the key so running the engine will do little that the electric fuel pump has not already done.
You can have a pressure regulator and the diaphragm can rot.

Fuel pump/filter? ran out of gas, can't seem to prime after 2 gal in tank, runs when placing a bit in through throttle body then dies.

might of clogged filter also 2 gal might not be enough check for fuel pump noise also when you run these cars out of fuel the pump over heats and goes bad

No fuel to throotle body truck will not start. Only start if prime the throttle body then shut off

you can attempt to run it w. starting fluid to make sure the engine is running aside of fuel issues. You may need to replace the fuel filter/regulator if it is a single piece. If it's definitely not getting fuel, its either a pump/filter/regulator issue, or an electrical issue. You can generally hear the fuel pump running when the engine is on if you are close enough to it. you can almost always hear it prime. if all is good and the fuel pump can be determined to not be at fault, change the filter and try again.

The fuel pump might be working but it is not priming. When you turn on the vehicle, the pump sends fuel under pressure to the injectors, to "prime" or have fuel present to be able to start engine. Without it there will no fuel available to start it. You are manually priming the engine, and the fuel pump is taking over from there. Check connections to fuel pump and replace if necessary. It is not an inexpensive repair

Sounds like the fuel system lost its prime.

Remove air cleaner, pour about 1/4 cup gasoline into the throttle body/carburetor, put air cleaner back on, start car. Repeat until it runs. You may get a small backfire in the throttle body, so don't be looking at it while someone else starts it. Good idea just to stand back from engine when engine is cranked.

Engine wont start without priming with gas first, then runs well

i have the same problem on a 98 jimmy 4.3 4x4.
i replaced the fule pump and have good pressure.
new wiers & coil (good spark) no MIL & no codes.
will only start when primed. it will run & drive all day
with no problems.
but once it has been turned off (warm or cold) i will
have to prime it once again to start it.
i have another engine that was in it before it spun a bearing.
it ran fine so i know all parts are good.
i swaped the mass air flow and throttle body but i still have
to prime it everytime to start it. am i forgetting something?
should i swap out the intake with the injectors?
any help would be sweet. thanks.
