Re: when brake pedal pressed side lights come on
Hello zeeko1 , over here when that happens its because someone put a single element bulb where a doubleelement bulb goes , now this bulb you take out to fix the problem , look at the bottom of the socket see if it has 1 contact point , then look into the hole where the bulb goes , i bet you see 2 contacts , this single contact bulb is shorting out into the other circuit back feeding voltage to other circuit . cheers mate !
Rick Byrds answer Would have given you the same symptoms but I found that my bulbs were correct but, side light element had shorted to brake light element inside the the the stop and tail light bulb.
Changed bulb wallah job done.
Thank you Rick for pointing me in the right direction

its probably the parking light switch on the dash, press the break pedal and see if your break lights work, there usually ran off of a switch on your pedal. if so i would say its the switch on the dash shorted out
you don`t say if its both or just one brake light out.you say the light itself is on but not if you mean tail light or what.the tail lights use a different filament in the bulb than the signal light which is the same filament that the brake light uses.if the signal light work on the rear then the bulbs are good,if just one side works then the bulb is no good on the side that doesn`t work.if the signal lights work but neither brake light works then you need to check the fuses in the fuse panel under the dash on the drivers side.if the fuses are good then it will be either a bad wire at the brake switch or a bad brake light switch, this is located on the brake pedal lever under the dash.
Seems to me that the brake lights switch has a problem there is a way to test this problem, you normally press the clutch pedal and hold down the start button to start the engine, now try pressing the break pedal down and hold the start button, if the car does not start up change the brake pedals switch.
check u brake light switch under dash follow brake pedal up towards steering column switch is mounted there check to make sure in correct position sometimes pop out if ok test switch for power if power to switch test push on pedal no light replace switch
more than likely it will be a faulted brake light switch...located on your brake pedal itself.....closer towards the firewall.. easiest to buy a chiltons manual...or possibly ask your neighborhood auto repair shop for the wiring schematic for your brake light switch.....hope I helped!!!
Break light fuse would be in your main fuse panel, most likely under the dash somewhere on the drivers side. A "key" of sorts may be on a sticker near the panel or molded into the plastic cover. If not a key should also be in the vehicle manual as to what fuse is what. Next thing is the break light switch attached somewhere under the dash to the break peddal might be faulty. This is most likely a plunging kind of switch that activates the break lights as the pedal is being pressed. Good luck!
there is a switch under the dash that when u press brake pedal it compresses switch and turns on light, look under dash and look at arm on break pedal towards the firewall, is switch broken and if not test both wires with probe while pressing pedal and both should be hot while pressing pedal if not bad switch
