I have a 1995chevy tahoe 1500. The 4 wheel drive just quit working. Does the switch on the transfer case have to work to engauge the front actuator in the differential and how do you testthe circuit? thank you for your time.

Yes the switch has to be operational for the actuator to function. A few easy steps to a speedy dianosis.
1- check the fuses under the hood in the relay center.
2- with the trucks 4wd engaged test the switch on the trans. There should be power to both legs of the switch. If not jumper the two wires together with a 10 amp fused jumper wire. Listen for the actuator to engage. If not verify there is power to the actuator on the front axle and that it has a known grounding source. check all grounds and power sources.
