grab a can of carb cleaner and spray it in the vicinity of the suspect vacuum leak. if engine idle changes (surges or coughs), then it is a vacuum leak. keep spraying in different areas to pinpoint it.

when idling, the engine is at its highest vacuum. I had this happen to my truck and it turned out the intake manifold gasket was leaking around the intake runner to cylinder 4. It ran fine on the highway but idled very rough as no. 4 kept missing. Pull your spark plugs and see if any of them are carbon fouled--that cylinder is probably missing at idle due to being too lean. When it misfires, the unburned fuel ends up on the plug.

If you have changed all that then I would say you are probably right vacum leak is next . Also try running some Chemtool cleaner in your fuel tank to clean up all fuel system.

Engine missing is a vast subject and calls for number of things to examine. What are the problem symptoms? Is it concerned with one or more of the following?
- Rough idle, stalls or misses.
- Engine hesitates/ poor acceleration.
- Engine diesels (runs after ignition switch is turned off).
- Muffler explosion (after fire) on deceleration only.
- Engine backfires.
- Engine rattles at idle speed only.
- Engine rattles at all speeds.
Please mention if there is some other symptom.
Thanks.

Where is Idle control valve located and how do you know if it's bad? My 1994 Toyota pick is idleing ruff and skips a little while running down the road. I've changed the plugs and wires also had the head...

Idle air control valve only controls air into the engine while idling. If your vehicle is running rough and skips, its misfiring. Make sure that the new plugs are properly gapped and timing is set right on the distributor side, intake hose isnt leaking. Re-inspect the sparkplugs for fouling (black, burnt, brown etc). if ok, have the computer scanned for the error at autozone (free). Post the code online...hopefully this helpd

92 Ford F150 4.9L. starts good, idles rough, dies at slow speeds

4.9 litre ?? you having a laugh its a 10ton truck engine not a pick up -global warming machine, remove the pump/sender unit and check the gauze filter also look inside tank for a something floating around ,i think the idles is not a related problem to the vehicle losing power but their is a possibility you could have a problem with the little vac operated thing on the fuel injector line that allows the fuel through only when the engine is running
