Question about 1998 Pontiac Grand Am
I want to disengage my anti-theft system because it keeps locking me out every day
The 10 minute re-learn procedure is just a temporary fix. Usually the vehicle Antitheft will engage once every 3 months, then once a month, then once a week, then once a day until it happens everytime you drive the car. Last year alone I bypassed over 100 vehicles with this problem. Walton Guerrero from Auto Tech

Go to both fuse boxes, one under the hood and one under the dashboard and pull the fuses and relays related to anti theft devices.

in the 1996 sunfire GM uses an anti theft lock system. It can be triggered by all sorts of things. In order to relinquish this you must have a key to turn the ignition. These are not coded just plain cut keys. Once you attain this you put the key in and turn the ignition to the ACC position and wait ten minutes (theft lock light will turn off), turn off and take key out. You MUST do this 3 times and then the theft lock will be disarmed.

on most hondas you have to pull the radio and get the code of the back then call the dealer, however I am pretty sure on that car you just write down the vin number and call the dealer I emphasize on call so they dont charge you

Check to see if you have a computer chip on your key. Chances are that the computer chip or the reader in the ignition keyhole is not reading it properly. If you leave the key on, engine off, for 15-20min. that security will reset and the light will go off. Turn key off and now try to start engine.
