Well the ground wire comes from the sending unit, and is bolted with an eyelet to the inside frame rail near the cross member. If that connection is good, you can check the connection to the sending unit on top of the tank. I assume your pump is not running? Or no gauge?

If your talking about the fuel pump, there is no shut-off switch. If your sure it is the fuel pump, check the fuel pump wiring for voltage and ground, engine cranking. Gray wire is voltage, black is ground. The pcm B fuse is in underhood fuse block. If good voltage and ground at the fuel pump with no fuel pump action or fuel pressure, suspect the fuel pump.

2002 Mitsubishi Montero won't start. Replaced the starter and fuel pump and filter.


Does vehicle engine turn over. If yes, then pay attention to fuel system. Check for good power and ground at fuel pump connector. If no power check fuel pump fuse, relay and for open wires (power, ground) to fuel pump.

Check the pcm ground pins to make sure they are grounded. 6, 28, 34, and 55.

I need to know where the fuel pump is located on a 1997 Mercury Cougar XR7 and what to check in order if I think it's the fuel pump that needs to be replaced


The fuel pump is mounted inside the tank. First thing to check is fuel pressure at the shrader valve. If you don't have good fuel pressure then you'll have determined it is a fuel delivery issue. Check for a good power and ground at the fuel pump, if you don't have a power and ground then you'll have to trace the wiring back and find out why you don't have power. Check the fuel pump relay and fuse. If you do have a good power and ground the pump is likely bad and needs to be replaced.

I turn the ignition switchand the fuel pumps do not pump up. i checked the ems, relays, enertia switch, fuses. and fuseable links. i can ground pumps at terminal and the pumps will work. there is spark....


Pour some gas down the intake manifold and see if it starts to verify this problem. If it starts you may have a bad fuel pump or possibly a bad ground for the body check all your body grounds. But if you're able to ground out the fuel pump and you hear it run you may have a clogged fuel filter. If you can keep the fuel pump running see if it will start if it starts you may have a wiring problem. Remember that computer controls both the positive in the ground going to the fuel pump. 1997 Gmc yukon fuel relay switch continues to burn out. Replaced fuel pump twice and also took it the dealer but no solutions. Truck runs fine for sometimes weeks but the problem continues.


I would have to check the fuel pump with a scope to look at the pattern and check the amps it is drawing . the grounds need to be checked and the pcm checked and reflashed. on the fuel system that would affect the fuel pump and relay to where it would burn it out is grounds , pcm , fuel pump , fuel pump relay. so you should convince them to replace the fuel pump and fuel pump relay under warranty and replace the pcm . and get a diagram and check all grounds. If the pcm is damaged and the current has been affected and instead of say a 5 volt or 2 volt signal it now has a 13.5 volt signal or if a ground is out then the temp of the relay will keep rising non energized a relay is about 99 energized it is around 140 you can check to see how hot that relay is getting. and if i remember correctly you want the pcm drivers checked.

1988 5.7 TBI Nightmare This is the start of what the problem was and is, I had a RV cam installed when the engine was rebuilt a year ago. the cam was not a computer friendly cam so after a round with the rebuilder and discovering the specs weren't the correct ones for the cam I installed a 3702 edelbrock cam and lifters with a 7800 timing chain and gear set after I had tried two chips from Jet and no improved performance and the 3rd chip was to be for the cam and that is what is in the ECU now and I have tried about 5 different BCC chips and the bottom line is the power is there but something is happening its hit and miss the idle will sometimes lope, is stalled when first started and acts as if its starving for fuel or its bogged with to much fuel. the fuel pressure is 10 - 13 psi and I have R/R the TPS, IAC, ESC and knocks device , EGR and Solenoid, MAP, Temp sensor, and the Dist is a Procomp 10001 with a MSD-5526 coil. the Throttle Body was rebuild and the ECM was replaced with a Rebuilt ECM. it will smell rich etc. but with the things that goes on it does not show any codes?? I have no clue just feel stupid this is been a simple thing that is kicking my **** and now its a challenge but still loosing the fight too far in and too much spent to stop,. LOL Help !!!! The BCC is a california vehicle AFBX, 5.7TBI TH400 A/T P.S. the key can be turned of and back on as the engine not dying and seems to correct the power and run problems but will not last goes back to running bad or with problems. ?
