Question about 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
I have a 2001 jeep grand cherokee limited 4.7L V8, i bought the jeep with a blown motor. The guy I bought it from gave me the blown engine, when i pulled the left head off I found failures in #s. 1,3 and 5 cyclinders the tops of the pistons were burned and metal damaged the head valves were ok on all 3 cyclinders, No. 1 showed the most damage part of the piston is gone the other 2 just had pitting in the piston top and head area. I bought a replacment engine new (not remanfactured) put the new engine in and turned the key engine turns over and trys to start but won't, i checked all grounds and wiring harness all seems to be conected, I the pulled the coil-packs and spark plugs and heres what i found. The spark plugs on the right side (passengers) showed signs for firing and had gas on them, but the Left (drivers side) had no signs of fuel on them. I then checked to make sure the were firing and both banks are firing just no fuel on left side. Not sure what to do next!!!
Check the injectors on that bank for pulses.. a regular 12v text light will do it should flash when cranking... its very possible that the crank sensor or camshaft sensor on the replacement engine is bad and giving you all the problems you have now.. are you using the original injectors? if you have injector pulses then check the coil for pulses the same way.. btw make sure you have 12v to them even before cranking engine could be a bad asd relay..wet plugs on one bank would also indicate a possible leaking injector and basicly draing the fuel starving the oposite bank for fuel.. to verify that the rail must be lifted by removing all 4 bolts make sure the clips hold the injectors firmly and turn the key to run but dont crank it then look for fuel leakin from bottom of injector(s) any drips is a bad injector..
