SOURCE: car running sluggish and rough. multiple misfire.

Hi there, sounds like this car might have either a bad coil pack or the distributor cap has gone bad. 3 most important things are air, fuel and 12v power. Seems your getting all three but one of them is giving you trouble. Sounds like spark. Try a new distributor cap or a new set of coils and see if that solves the problem.

if it isnt the spark it has to be fuel or air which would lead to lack of fuel pressure which can cause sluggish behavior or the air sensor in the intake if there is any is not working properly and the computer is running on a safety fuel map that is a base map used by manufacturers which burns alot of fuel but stops the engine from destroying it self. Check the coils o the sensors.

My 02 galant runs rough when put in gear but in idle runs okay it also surges up and down replaced the plug wires

Okay, lets start with the oil you found on spark plugs when you were replacing them. this oil is coming from the valve cover tube hole area, notice the plugs go into the holes in the valve cover, there is a gasket the goes around the top of the tubes and when it leaks it goes into spark plug hole, the valve cover needs replacing .
this will cause rough idle and running problems, after replacing valve cover gasket the holes must be cleaned, using crab cleaner, spray into holes and use air to blow out . this may need to be done a few times to get oil out .
after oil is removed . then remove spark plugs and wipe them clean.
The next step is to find the air (vacuum leak) , you said you hear it around intake tube. check for cracks or broken vacuum line. this leak will cause idle problems and driving problems,

I did the Valve cover gasket, spark plug and wires on my girls 2000 mitsubishi eclipse GT and I put everything back to where they go. And right when I started it up, Knocking and rough idle occured. T

sounds like u left a vacuum line disconected or a emision line off recheck to make sure u hooked everything back up. sometimes when disconectimg wires and hoses u move them out of the way and they get hidden.

Timing off

Hi, You have put the sparkplug wires in wrong order. The fix is put them in right order. The firing order is 1,3,5,2,4,6. On the cap are numbers for each wire and plug.

Diagnosed with ignition coil problem, replaced coil, spark plugs & wires, inspected pcm, vehicle running rough in gear, acceleration is rough, smooths out when it gets going. oil on one spark plug....

2006 3.9 has to be a T-Bird or LS

There are no spark plug wires

It has Coil-On-Plug individual coils

Plugs don't fail --they get changed at 60,000 miles
give or take, say every 3 years

The front (2) O2 Sensors get repalced at 100,000
miles. The ones closest to the engine

Clean MAF Sensor at least once a year

I have no idea how you inspect a pcm,if your
at home & have no scanner or PC Based Software

Egr Valves fail early on those & other fords

You could test, not look at,actually put an oscilloscope
on the TPS Sensor

Any oil on a spark plug requires a new valve cover gasket

If a coil was replaced based on a code alone, you may have
replaced a good one,not what needed to be replaced if any

I have a 1999 mazda 626 lx 2.0 the car ideled rough with ac or defroster replaced front and rear motor mounts, now it idels rougher and vibrates the car.

These cars tend to have bad spark plug wires, they will arc where the boot goes down into the valve cover.Check to make sure there is no oil in the spark plug well,if the is you will need to replace valve cover gasket and orings.Souds like you need a new set of plugs and wires.Look for corosion where the wires connect to distributor also as you may also need a new cap and or coil.

Changed timing belt on 2001 kia sportage but still runs rough

I would check the connectors on the coil packs, spark plugs and wires and replace them if they at all seem worn or tired. My 2000 sportage ran rough so I replaced the fuel filter, coil packs, spark plugs and wires, cleaned out the IAC valve, TPS, throttle body and intake tube, tightened the screws on the fuel pump access door under the right rear seat and cleaned the ground wire and the contact surface and I added 1 ground wire from the block to the firewall and 1 from the valve cover to the firewall. Your timing is more than likely right where it needs to be but the ignition may be slightly missing from a bad coil pack, dirty or fouled plugs or a bad plug wire.

How to fit kia sportage valve seals

no its the valve cover gasket. i just did this yesterday. you have to take off the the big thing on top of the valve cover, i think it is the air something other. anyways names arn't important. you need to remove i believe 9 bolts from the out side of the cover, which you can see. remove cover to the spark plugs remove those 8 bolts and pull hard, just take off the old gasket and fit the new one. very simple. i know pretty much nothing about cars but did it just fine no problems. except, you should expect oil to leakk into the spark plug housing but its fine if you clean up the majority. hope this helps.

Valve Cover Gasket

the oil was the cause of the misfire, the oil swells the rubber on the plug boots and interferes with the electrical connection from the wire to the plug. when you replace the gasket, remover the plug wires, marking which one went where, and use a spray electrical cleaner to remove the oil. make sure the rubber on the new wires isn't already swelled. before removing the plugs or valve cover, spray brake cleaner down in the holes and use compressed air or shop rags to get the hole shiny clean before removing plugs. remove plugs and clean them too. then reinstall plugs and remove valve cover. when replacing any gasket, use a razor blade on to clean the surfaces well. you can even spray a shop rag with brake clean and wipe it to make sure its clean. clean is important. reinstall cover with new gasket in place and torque bolts... be careful not to overdo it, they are small bolts and overtightening can flatten out gasket and cause more leaks. then just reinstall plug wires and off you go

2004 beetle changed head gasket. put back together running real rough and wont go over 2000 rpms

hi thanks for update the engine would run rough ifvalve timing was off a tooth however if in doubt ? recheck ! whenever you fit new belts or change always fit and work anticlockwise from the crankshaft ! this ensures the crank and cam side of belt and or chain is tight with the cam and crank t d c marks are aligned before you fit to other cogs and round tensioner did you compression test ? this also would verify lower comp's on each cyl due to valves not timed ie inlet+exhaust out of cynk ps do not ev engine too much just in case this is problem

I have a 95 honda accord with the non vetec motor. I recently replaced the spark plugs and valve cover gasket. After driving a couple of days, i noticed oil coming out from the back of the valve cover...

the valve cover gasket may not be seated right if you remove the valve cover check the gasket 4 damage if so replace with new one and make sure if there is a grove for the gasket to sit in that it is in all the way round , applying a little gasket glue on the valve cover befor fitting the gasket can help to keep the gasket in place when you refit to the engine
