The 4,0l and the 4.6 northstar have the same problem with head gaskets,the head bolts strip or stretch in the aluminum block causing little compress of the head gaskets,the combustion pressure pushes past and enters the coolant.this air in the coolant builds up and pushes the antifreeze out causing an overheat situation.recommend head studs not head bolts..again gm missed the boat or did it on purpose to generate work for the dealerships...

You may have air trapped in the cooling system. This will cause overheating. When you fill the system, there is a small brass air purge valve above the coolant pump and another on the thermostat housing. These need to be loosened and trapped air released when filling the cooling system.

Unless you are in a very hot climate, with no air con working the radiator fan does not normally come on.

My 2005 Dodge Durango is overheating


if lower hose is cold and upper is hot there is no circulation several things bad water pump or slipping belt, plugged radiator. air flow going around radiator make sure the side air dam deflectors are there

I replaced my water pump for my 2006 buick lucerne and now theres no heat


Hope you didn't break a nail.

There is a air pocket in the heater core, you just didn't burp it right.

Try this

  1. Open the hood of your car. Secure the hood with the safety handle. If you have a newer car, you should have a bleeder valve on the front of your radiator. Check in your owner's manual for the location of this valve. If you do start your car, open the valve with wrench and let your car heat up. The excess air will bleed out of your cooling system. Keep your car on long enough to give the (trapped air) time to bleed out of your system.
  2. Let your car cool down. Once the car is cool, take off the radiator cap. Did the level of the radiator fluid go down? If it did, it means you bled the air out of your cooling system. Replace the radiator fluid, turn on the car, and let it run. Replace radiator fluid as needed.
  3. Step 3 (above) is the way you will remove air from your cooling system if you do not have a bleeder valve on your radiator. You will leave the cap off the radiator. You will run your car until it heats up. As the air dissipates, the radiator fluid level will go down. You will fill up your radiator fluid to the correct level. Be careful because the heated radiator fluid will be hot. Always wear leather gloves and safety goggles when working on your radiator.
  4. Once the air dissipates and you fill the fluid, shut off the car. Let the car cool down. Once the car is cool, put the radiator cap back on the radiator. You may have to put more radiator fluid in the radiator. The level may fall as the car cools down. Now it is safe to drive your car. You have removed the trapped air from your cooling system.
Tips:
Always wear gloves and safety goggles when working on your radiator.
Radiator fluid gets very hot when heated.
Check radiator fluid periodically.

Air pockets in radiator


Air can be purged. While your engine is cool remove radiator and reservoir caps. Place funnel in radiator. Turn heat to the highest position and start vehicle. Add coolant to radiator as needed while vehicle warms up. You should see bubbles coming out of radiator. Fill reservoir to between cold and hot fill lines. Replace caps when bubbling stops but before coolant temperature reaches normal operating temperature. Never remove the radiator cap until engine has fully cooled down.

Does radiator fan blow towards or away from radiator


Toward.

During normal driving, the fan will be off, because air is being pushed through the radiator. When stopped, the fan will cut on, pushing air through the radiator and cooling the engine.

Also, make sure the radiator fan is on the inside (engine side) of the radiator, so it is not blocking the air during normal driving.

please rate, thx Coolant Recovery System NOTE: When the water thermostat (8575) is closed, there is no flow through the radiator coolant recovery reservoir (8A080).

Trapped air in the cooling system must be removed. A pressurized radiator coolant recovery reservoir system is used which continuously separates the air from the cooling system.
  • When the water thermostat is open, coolant flows through the small hose from the top of the radiator outlet tank to the radiator coolant recovery reservoir.
  • The radiator coolant recovery reservoir separates any trapped air from the coolant and replenishes the system through its radiator coolant recovery hose to the water thermostat housing.
  • The radiator coolant recovery reservoir serves as the location for:
    • service fill
    • coolant expansion during warm-up
    • system pressurization from the pressure relief cap and
    • air separation during operation
  • The radiator coolant recovery reservoir is designed to have approximately 0.5-1 liter (0.53-1.06 quarts) of air when cold to allow for coolant expansion.

Radiator Cooling fans pull or push air (93 Chevy Lumina 3.1 L) ?


A radiator fan is designed to pull air to pull air through the radiator to help cool it, while blowing the air on back across the engine to try to assist once again at keeping the unit running cool as to not over heat.
