SOURCE: serpentine belt slips off idler pulley

The A/C pully is supposed to spin freely until the AC is activated to run.. The cranshaft pully does not. Replace the tensioner pully. The belt has to fit in between the grooves on the pullys.

SOURCE: I had the alternator, alternator belt replaced on

The alternator needs to be spaced in or out until the pulley is in line with the rest of your pulley's. They may have dropped or lost spacers when they changed it. You can use washers to do this or make slight bends to the mounting brackets if necessary. When it is right the belt will look straight with no visible bends. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: my 1993 mercury capri is going through alternator belts, breaking

You probably have an aftermarket alternator, Some come with the wrong pulley installed. You cannot swap pulleys because the shaft is different. This is a very common complaint for this car. Find an original equipment alternator off ebay or a junk yard, you'll see the difference on the pulleys...good luck...blueamber... I have owned 6 of these cars

After driving my renualt mageane for 25 minutes it strats with the smell of rubber then strats smokeing on the engine

Look at all the components the belt is turning. Something has stopped turning and is smoking the belt. Most likely the alternator, water pump and the tension and idler pulleys.

1998 malibu shreding belts

Before installing a new belt spin all pulleys by hand. They should spin amoothly and freely. Check alternator, idler, tensioner, power steering and A/C. If any are hard, rough, or seized replace. Check that the belt aligns correctly with all pulleys and remove any debris embedded in the grooves.

What makes a belt squeak?

Belts squeak for the same reason tires do when they spin. They are slipping. Something isn't turning as fast as the belt wants it to. On ford it's usually ether the idler sprocket or the tensioner. If you remove the belt and try spinning all of the pulleys by hand.( note the crank wont spin freely) you will usually be able to tell witch ones slipping.

Passenger side underneath the hood is now smoking and making a weird noise that is constantly loudly scretching when the car is still and when it is in motion. I lifted the hood, and it looks like smoke is...

That smoke is coming from the belt because, i think your alternator pulley is locked up.Take the belt off and see if you can spin the alternator pulley freely by hand.If it can't spin freely replace alternator. These alternators have a bearing in the center that sometimes seizes up.

My radiator hose exploded just before the thermostat. The serpantine belt has a single groove on the smooth side. of course the car overheated. when i 1st started there was loud screaching sounds coming...

Sounds more like the water pump has locked up...try to spin the pump pulley...the thermostat could have been stuck closed initially causing the over heating, and hose explosion...The serpentine belt will usually immediatelt become contaminated and wear out as anti freeze drenches the pump pulley, and belt...Hope this helps your diagnosis.

You will need to remove the belt and check each pulley and idlerfor play/ slop
My best answer is you will find an idler pulley that is shot

Serpentine belt

The pulley's aren't supposed to spin freely with the belt on. The belt connects all the pully's to the crankshaft, which does not spin freely because it is attached to the pistons inside the engine. To turn the pulleys, you have to turn the crankshaft, which in turn moves the pistons inside the engine up and down.
