Question about 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio

1 Answer

My 2002 vw cabrio door locks stuck in locked position even though the lock button by window goes up and down when you push lock and unlock button on door. The door is locked when you pull handle but the automatic mechanism still seems to be working correctly.

If you would like to fix this yourself, you will be needing to pull the door panel off that side and finding the problem inside the door, but, before you do, here's what you are looking for:
The door latch is fastened to the door jamb with screws.
There are several wire-like levers that come to the door latch and tell it whether to lock or not, to open or not, etc.
The wire type levers come from the two handles, ( inside and out,) and the locking mechanisms, inside and out.
One of your has broken or come apart.
Maybe a bushing has failed at the end of one of the levers.
Be blessed.

SOURCE: 2001 VW Jetta 2.0

My wife's minivan had a similiar/related problem....especially on a bumpy gravel road....on off on off on off...AHHHHHHHHHHHH!! (this was both the beeps and the I said AHAHHHHH!)

I resolved it by figuring out which door was causing the issue....very irritating the flashing interior lights, etc.......the issue is likely that the rubber gasket is worth enough to not push the sensor in completely....

  • locate the sensor on each door....little 1" shaft like area in the door pillar area...pressed in when the door is closed
  • with the engine running, open each door (one at a time) to manually press this switch in ( to identify which door is causing this irritating issue)
  • once the troubled door is located...look to see where it would make contact on the door itself
  • look for a rubber nickel sized plug on the door
  • it is likely worn slightly, or pressed out of shape
  • to resolve my wife's issue, I turned this plug a 1/4 turn or the 'unworn' area
  • this worked really well...although it took a few 1/4 turns to figure out the best fix
  • ultimately it was an irritating fix....but the problem is/was much worse than pulling over every now and a again to 'fix' it...esp. at night (think flashing interior light, beeping..esp. when the kids had just fallen asleep!!!!)
  • was a little fiddle process, but once you do it once then, you can fiddle some more
  • long-term, perhaps get another 'plug', but my solution worked really well

SOURCE: 1998 Jetta Passenger Door Won't Unlock

I had a similar problem with my son's 1998 Jetta K2 4 door. I sprayed loads of WD40 into the locking area from the end of the door through the clip slot, worked the mechanism sprayed some more and finally it start working. My mechanic said these are very prone to moisture causing rusting on the moving parts.

SOURCE: rear door wont unlock

this is not the dead lock? if i am right in thinkin that this is a centrally locked car then the sensor in the door isd set too low mybe slipped as only has to be out a little to cause this, more of an antitheft system than a dead lock.

The only thing you can do - take out the door trim and find what is blocking the mechanism.
