Following replacement of an alternator on my Toyota Surf 3.0 td import the new one now becomes extremely hot, any ideas what may be causing this

there is an uncontrolled short in the system that is allowing the alternator to exceed it's designed out put. You may have not used the correct regulator with the new alternator or the new alternator needs an external regulator for current control where as the old unit had an inbuilt regulator. check that you have connected the alternator as required for the new one and not for the old one.

Replace voltage regulator 2000 suburban 1500

You don't say what year your truck is but since the 70's the alternator and voltage regulator are housed together. Use a voltmeter to check the output from the alternator to a good battery when running it should be putting out 13-14 volts if not there is your problem.

My 1997 nissan hardbody charges but not enough to run it I have new alternator and batt wat else could be wrong

Put a voltmeter on the battery when it is running. There should be around 13.5 volts for a proper reading.
A little confused by your request: the battery does not power the car when it is running. The alternator supplies all the power to run everything. The battery is only used to start the car, and is then re-charged by the alternator when running. If the alternator is not putting out enough to run the car, then there might be a loose connection somewhere. Check all battery and alternator connections for clean, tight connections. If good, have the new alternator tested. Sometimes you can get a defective one.

Put a new alternator in.still not charging battery

If your old alternator was shorted, it may have blown fuse #8 in the instrument panel fuse block. It is a 10 Amp fuse and is the ignition circuit feed for the alternator.

The battery of my car does not charge and I put

The main wire from the alternator to the battery is not making connection, just run another one to the positive side of the battery,to the large wire on the alternator, leave the other one on the alternator, just add this one,use as big of wire,or larger,a small cable will do nicely.

98 dodge caravan alternator how to change

remove the negative battery cable from the battery. loosen the serpentine belt by using an open-end box wrench and pull the tension pulley back (it's spring loaded, so be careful) by the bolt, remove the belt from the alternator and the tension pulley, then slowly let the tension pulley loose. remove the nuts holding the wires on to the alternator. remove the bolts from the alternator mount, and remove the alternator. put the new one on and hand tighten all of the bolts. then tighten them down with a wrench. put the belt back on the alternator pulley and make sure it's on all of the other pulleys and wheels except the tension. use the wrench again and pull the pulley towards you with your right hand and put the belt under the pulley with your left, and let the pulley go back. reconnect the wires to the alternator and then the battery. **warning** make sure that the battery is fully charged before you start the car with the new alternator, or you'll cause "alternator death" and void your warranty.

on some models the belt ran around both if you do not have the old belt get a piece of string and wrap it around the pulleys for the alternator. have the alternator set about halfway on the adjustment bracket. two bolts hold the alternator one on the bottom and one on the top loosen both up enough to allow you to move the alternator but the belt on and rotate the alternator until tight enough you can't push it down more than a 1/4 of an inch.

Alternator

Answer Use a large wrench to take tension off of your serpentine belt and remove the belt from the alternator, (just the alternator). Disconnect the wires. Remove the bolts then the alternator. Put new alternator in place using old bolts. Replace wires (may only be one wire, depending on the alternator). Get your large wrench back out, put the belt back on the alternator, and your good to go. this should do it.
