The problem is the voltage regulator is bad. However the regulator is almost as expensive as a rebuilt alternator so unless the alternator as been replaced recently I would suggest to go with the rebuilt alternator.

I had a small plastic piece replaced in the transmission and it solved the problem(2007). My car was still under warranty, so it only cost me about $100.00. The actual cost was closer to $900.00 because of the labor involved. I used the Ford Dealer in Schulenburg, Texas. They would know exactly what you are talking about, if you ask them.

Check all connections to alt. and battery to make sure they are clean and tight, as it sounds like a loose or dirty connection someplace. Possibly something not tightened completely after battery and alt. replaced? (just enough to get the annoying light to go on occasionally)
