Question about 1998 Isuzu Rodeo

1 Answer

Low beams don't work

My low beams on my 1998 Isuzu rodeo don't work. The high beams and parking lights and everything else works fine. So far I have replaced the lights, swapped the relays and cleaned the switch assembly in the steering colum. I hear a clicking sound from the relay when I turn the low beams on.. That should eliminate the switch being bad, right? Any advice is appreciated!

Are you getting power in and out of the dimmer switch for both high and low circuits ?

Yes. Dimmer works fine either way.

Interesting. Both circuits get power from the same fuse - a 10 amp fuse for each side. The dimmer switch provides ground for each circuit. So if you have power at the light, and ground for each circuit, the high and low should work. What do you have at the light sockets ?

I think I narrowed to the switch.. It does not look like its possible to replace just the headlight lever..
The whole switch assembly looks like choir with removing the steering wheel

Checked a schematic.. And if the dash/ speedometer lights work, it's the dimmer that's bad.. $12 on eBay and its all fixed!

SOURCE: I drive a 1997 Isuzu Rodeo V6 4X4. My high beam

It is either the relay or the switch. And yes, you can buy the switch only. Relay is located in power box under engine hood. Switch it out with another one like it in the panel and see if you ge the same result. If same result, replace switch.

SOURCE: 1997 Isuzu Rodeo low beam problem.

Rodeo has an opening where the blinker switch go into the steering column and gets full of dust and ect. Take a can of computer keyboard cleaner and stick the spray tub down into the column and spray while working the blinker switch up and down and or compressed air to get the dust out, works everytime.

The most likely problem is the combination switch in the column. They are getting power, but they get their ground from the switch. See diagram below. The problem could also be the yellow/red wire. You could check the continuity of that wire from the connector below the column to the headlights before going after the switch. There is a procedure for changing the switch at the link below.

Where is the headlight relay in the 1998 jimmy? Low beams won't come onat night everything else does. high beams work

There is a headlight relay in the engine compartment fuse box, but its after the headlight switch and before the dimmer switch, so it powers both high and low beam circuits.
I would check the dimmer switch.

GMC Envoy 2003 SLT only the parking lights and fog lights work. The low beam and high beam don't work. Please help

Well, the problem is that I dont know the reason, you should investigate. There could be issues with lamps (must get new) or electricity problems (must head to auto-service)

99 ford contour daytime running lights work, but high beams do not.

I live in Australia & I don't fully understand the term " daytime running lights " but high beam & low beam lights are on separate fuses as is the parking lights so you probably have a blown fuse, check all the fuses in the fuse box......hope this helps......cheers.

It sounds like you are confused about how your headlamp system is supposed to work. The DRL does not run on the High beam circuit, it runs on the low beam circuit. The fog lamps are supposed operate with the park lamps and also with the low beams, not the high beams. From your description, I would say that your system is operating as designed and you are having trouble telling High from Low. (Don't feel bad, that is why high beam indicators were invented in the first place.)

Hi all fuses good but can not get low beam to go, hi beam will go and park lights also work.

Have you checked the headlight globes? The Low Beam filaments usually burn out well before the High beam ones because the Low beam is used most of the time. Access to the globes is via the rear of the light assemblies in the engine bay.

High-low beams not working

Check for headlight relay and fuse. Some cars have separate circuits for head light flasher and normal high/low beam. From your description, I would suspect a bad connection to/from relay or relay itself.
