Question about Cars & Trucks
Coming from above oil fiter
Two very likely causes:
1) Leaking oil pressure sending unit.
This small round unit is screwed in to the block and has a wire or two attached to it.
2) Leaking valve cover gasket. Oil runs down the side of the block.

You really need to have a good look under it around the Exhaust pipe run. Usually this means putting it up on ramps.
I think for ease of diagnosis - go to a small garage and ask them for a quote for repair. Once it's on the ramps - have a look yourself.
If you think their quote is too high - get a second opinion, or if you are competent enough - do the work yourself. At least you will hopefully find the problem for free.
It can be as easy as a leak around a screw-on oil filter, or as complicated as a failed main crank seal - which often requires engine removal and splitting the gearbox off it.
Best to get a free quote anyway.

possibly the oil pressure sending unit- looks like a small spark plug screwed into the engine with one wire going to it

SOURCE: 2006 Beetle oil leak
firts you will have to clean off the lower portion of the motor and transmission then i would put a clean peice of cardboard so you can see if you can isolate the location of the fluid leak.you migh also want to check all your fluids to see which one is low in oeder to determine whats leaking.then you can isolate the location then you can have it repaired

Has the oil filter just been replaced? Sometimes the old gasket sticks to the mounting area, causing leakage if the new filter is installed on top of it. It is also possible the gasket was for some reason missing on a new filter. Let me know if this is not the cause, I'll try to help further.
