I had to replace my battery about four months ago. Once you replace the battery you have to start the car and let it run for a little while to re-map the "brain." This is stated in the manual that came with the car. I had the same problem though, the wrench light was on and I had no revs when I hit the gas. However, I shut the car off after I let it idle for about 20 minutes. When I started the car up the second time the wrench light was off and the car was operating normally. The car will also shift harshly until the transmission learns how to shift efficiently as well.

I hope this helps.

The wrench is an indicator light that means the vehicle is in need of repair, which would explain the poor running of your car.

2005 ford explorer wont start and says engine fail safe mode with a wrench picture

Is the battery dead?

At least try & get any codes present
before disconnecting it, as you have a wrench light on

That you should know about-system malfunctions & check
lamps have been around for 32 years

Failsafe is either a really bad ignition coil & class A Misfire
that could ruin the exhaust converter or an overheating problem

If you replaced the battery already, read your owners manual
to see how to get the security system clear, if that is even
applicable to your truck. My Lincoln you can do whatever you
want & have non of those issues with batteries & PATS security

How to replace the ECM on a 2005 crysler pacifica

see the procedure and fix it. God bless you
    • 1 Open the engine compartment to access the battery. Disconnect the battery with a socket wrench.
    • 2 Locate the ECM either in the engine compartment or under one of the front seats in the vehicle. The ECM is a silver, rectangular module. Consult your owner's manual or appropriate car dealership for the location of the ECM if you don't know
    • 3 Disconnect the electrical supply by lifting the locking tab and pulling away from the computer. This will isolate the electrical power.
    • 4 Unbolt the screws holding the ECM in place with a socket wrench. Pull the old ECM out and replace it with the new one.
    • 5 Bolt the ECM in place with the socket wrench. Ensure the bolts are tight.
    • 6 Plug in the electrical wires to the ECM. The wiring harness will lock in once it is pushed in far enough.
    • 7 Connect the battery cables to the battery. Tighten the cables with a socket wrench.
    • 8 Start the vehicle and allow it to idle for five minutes. If there are still conflicting codes, the "Check Engine" light will come on.

I have a 2008 Mercury Mariner and my wrench light came on. My engine is also having problems shifting gears (the rpm's go really high before it will shift gears) Any idea what is causing this? I...

The Wrench light is a Throttle/Powertrain light, if its shifting weird this may be a problem. It could be a few things. I would take it to a repair shop that deals in hybrid parts, maybe even a dealer. Here is a link that goes in-depth of the Wrench light. As the article says it could be anything from a $12 part to a $1,000 hybrid part. Some are getting this light do to overheating of the Hybrid batteries, hope this helps,
